My hubby has been there for a few months and we were told that , " oh you get so much money, you'll come home with a bunch of $$$$ saved up." But I don't see it, I mean there is a tiny bit extra which makes really hardly a difference. I am not understanding this considering what my hubby and all the rest of them are doing over there and endureing. Is it just the single people who come home with money ? Where is it ? Not much extra considering bill still have to be paid , hubby need funds for himself too over there. Am I just blind or are we not being compinsated for dangers he is going through and kids being without daddy????

Sweetie unless you have walked in my shoes don't throw stones. Are you a military wife ? You have no idea what its like. Yes I worry about him, get a clue ! I stand behind , besides, and in front of my hubby 100 % being honest and not a DUMMY , having 3 young children no matter WHO you are you have to worry about money. I have looked at his LES and it looks I guess how it should. I was ASKING if there should be alot of extra or just a bit. FYI alot of other wives are wondering to. I am VERY proud of my hubby and what he is doing . Unless you have an answer that might be a real answer not an opinion then please if not get a clue and move on. If your a active duty or recent active, whos hubby HAS been over there please answer. If not kick rocks with your judgements. All the saints are in the bible and your not one of them.

Deployments are not new except he is an IA and this deployment is with the Army, and Marines; in the desert of IRAQ. I am use to ships and just getting FSH. Thanks for everyone taking the time to help and give me answers I so appreciate it. Those others who have heads up their rears, thanks anyway but u did not help or dent my soul.

excuse me lexus person you have some nerve. Reread cuz your blind. I never said that single people get more cuz their single. If you had an IQ you could see that meant cuz no kids, no wives, no rent or bills here in U.S. Wow you are off your rocker. Show some respect ! Some respect for yourself as well. You are looking like the old retired men from the Navy that have been married and DIVORCED 5 times with no kids, and only moved up in rank cuz back then it was so much more easier to. i am sorry that a woman wronged you. Gold digger huh, from someone called lexus,... ok ! I am a strong, proud, faithful, loyal and my hubby's bestfriend. I am a mother and among the silent ranks who serve just as our husbands do. You are why the Navy has changed policies and reason why we have a new Navy. Thank the lord above YOU are retired. I LOVE my military life. I LOVE my hubby, and old fart I LOVE my kids and everything I , and my family stands for. Bless the past , present, future military families.

Payment while deployed >>
Per Diem of 3.50 a day, filed at end of tour minus days on RnR leave
Leave acquired while deployed is tax free meaning when its used, federal taxes will not be applied to that portion of pay.
Tax free but NOT Social Security free (FICA)
Base Pay
Separate rats
BAH*
SAVE Pay $100
HFP (hostile fire pay) $225
FSH (family separation) $250*
*= married soldiers only
FSH is paid AFTER he has been there for 30 days. He will get back pay for the first month on the 2nd months LES.
Tax laws allow for combat pay to be included or excluded for purposes of Earned Income Credit.
The single soldiers would seem to get more outright, as they get Seperate rations added when they didnt have it before ($264) however they do not get FSH.

My husband is in Iraq as well. The extra money I see is Tax Free income, Hazardous Duty Pay and Family Separation Pay. It really isn't that much of a difference. I too have 3 children at home and rent to pay that BAH doesn't cover. The money our service members make during the times of deployment are a HUGE misconception especially by civilians that are not educated on the military pay grades. They risk their lives for pennies a day LITERALLY! This is the sad fact, and yet they love what they do and are proud to serve their country regardless of the dangers and uncertainties. More than half of all military families still struggle financially during deployments, especially lower enlisted. All and all, our men and women in uniform risk their lives for the very freedom that so many have taken for granted and all they ask for in return is not a hefty paycheck but SUPPORT from their fellow Americans, and even that comes few and far between these days. We as military wives understand and share in their sacrifices for this country and I, like you, are proud to say I AM A MILITARY WIFE regardless of the bank account balance.

i know a lot of other married people have the same questions. there is extra money that comes in but your per diem you aren't going to see on the LES it's going to be under travel. that is about $105 a month that isn't put onto the LES. as for single people, like myself who are serving in Iraq we don't get more money than you do and I still have bills to pay (car, insurance, rent) most can get away without paying rent but when you are deployed last minute (48hours notice) you don't get to move out. also if you are living in base housing you don't see the BAH in your acccount as I'm sure you are aware because that all comes out. I do know that my per diem did not actually get into my account until I was in country for about 2 and a half months. Hope this clears up some stuff.

There are a few ways that you get more money. First there's the obvious with the family separation pay, not paying taxes on money earned overseas, combat pay (if applicable) hazardous duty pay (again, if applicable) Also there is a savings plan that is open to deployed people with a higher interest rate. And when he comes home he will get per diem pay. I wasn't aware of that when my husband deployed but it was nice surprise when that mony posted! Paid for a week long vacation for the 4 of us... a much needed one too!
I have to say that I think it's ridiculous some of the answers you've gotten. Any wife...no matter what the husband's job is...is going to worry about money. That doesn't make you greedy like some posters are saying. Besides with your husband gone he needs for you to take care of things at home. So don't pay attention to them. They obviously aren't too bright!

I apoligize for the shawnegee girl, she must not have to pay bills and support a family here at home, while being a single parent. I think most people know that all that hype the recruiters give you about great pay! education! is all crap, they get money for making their quota. They don't care what they tell the person they are trying to recruit. He will have free health care, and you and your kids should get that too, right? He will be able when he comes home to get a free education on the GI bill,I would take full advantage of that, and see if that covers you? And You can buy a new home easier.
And you know what?there is not a thing you can do about his salary. You never win when it comes to the government.
Alot of service wifes are working extra jobs to make ends meet.I would take advantage of every, and anything type of services you can get free. Good luck! You are in our prayers.

You should be recieving a minimum $475.00 extra per month. $225.00 combat pay and $250.00 seperation from family pay. As well they should not be taking any taxes out of his pay as he is exempt from taxes while in a combat area.
I for one appreciate the sacrifices your family is going through. I know it's tough on you and the kids. It's equally tough on him too. Being a military wife is not easy. Reach out to other women while your husband who are gone who is also in your situation. You can be a great support network for each other.

Family Seperation: $250/month, starts on day 31
Hostile Fire/imminent Danger pay, if qualified for is $225/month. not every location warrants this, hoever.
there is also no federal taxes paid save FICA.
som epeople, esp. on IA alsso get save pay and per diem, but that normally isn't paid out until they return.

What are you a gold digger? How do you rate to worry about how much you get over any other solider just because you kids do you think you are the only one with any? Come on look I did 20yrs in the Navy so I can definitely tell you this as far as if the single people are getting more wake the hell up! You and your are getting 1. Money for having Kids.
2. You get more tax write offs than single service members. Look I am sorry that your husband has to go out and actually do what he is trained do but that is all about being a solider. I think you need to take a step back look no said you to marry him or spread your legs so get over it.

Because your at home paying bills with it.
When they say they will save a bunch of money it is usually the bachelors who don't have anything to spend it on overseas and live in the barracks.
That being said he will sort of get a pay raise. Hazard duty pay, Sea pay, Tax free, etc...
It is all relative to his job and location but yes most military save alot of money when they deploy, However alot of them blow it when they get back due to their need to have everything they were deprived of when deployed.

according to risk you ought to get married till now he leaves, extraordinarily if there's a toddler on the way? you ought to do a small wedding ceremony, and function a super one later (on your anniversary or something). My aunt and uncle have been given married in a small rite, and then a twelve months later that they had saved up some money and did a super relatives wedding ceremony on their one-twelve months anniversary. or in simple terms sign the paperwork to be legally married till now he is going, and then do the marriage rite/occasion as quickly as he gets decrease back. yet another selection is getting a joint financial corporation account till now he is going, so he can deposit the money like widespread yet you ought to get admission to it to have the money you go with for your self and for the toddler.
