Yes, I agree. The only one I couldn't think of was Holyfield. Wasn't he the one who got his ear bitten off by Tyson? I couldn't believe that we both also thought of Sonny Liston. What do you think of Joe Frazier? The thriller in Manila, wasn't that the one with Frazier and Ali? Thanks for a boxing question, cause I love boxing too.

get the modern heavyweight holyfield out of there .heavyweight boxing has been in a slump the last 20 years or so and no heavyweight in that time should be part of a top 5 list, or even top20 list.

Holyfield was ok for the 1990's, which were a dead era of boxing, but lets face it he was flat out beating left overs from the 80's and an old man from the 1970's george foreman!

The only reason people still follow him now as an old man he is still competitive showing how much boxing has slumped further since the 1990's.

Liston should be nowhere in there, Tyson should not either.

You should have the all time greats.

Johnson, Dempsey, loius, marciano, ali etc.

Apart from Ali I wouldn't have any of the others in the top 10. Tyson had the potential but you don't get points for potential, Foreman lost it after Ali so he doesn't deserve to be in their either. Holyfield didn't beat anyone of substance and Tyson was a spent force when they met.

There is another consideration and that is that all the people you pick with the exception of Liston and a young Ali/Clay are "Modern" era It really is a diferent world now and in the old days people like Joe Louis, Floyd Patterson and a few others could have mixed it with todays cossetted athletes. One name missing from your list who I would definately put higher than Holyfield would be a young Joe Frasier

That's a good list. Here's mine though:

1. Joe Louis - Heavyweight champ for 11 years with 25 successful title defenses.

2. Rocky Marciano - Retired undefeated at 49-0.

3. Muhammad Ali - No explanation needed.

4. Jack Johnson - First black heavyweight champ.

5. Larry Holmes - 7 years champ

I would ditch Liston and stick in Sugar Ray Robinson (yes I know he was a light heavyweight). I put Ali at the top and swap Tyson and Foreman around.

edit: In fact I'm lying now I have had time to think. I'd ditch Tyson and put In Rocky Marciano

So my list would be

1. Ali
2. Robinson
3. Holyfield
4. Marciano
5. Big George

AFAIC, in case you do not handle an prolonged occupation on the precise of the branch, you do not benefit attention. a million. Joe Louis - prolonged domination on the precise, out of the straightforward sequence of helpful defences, acceptable all-around technical boxer. the closest the HW branch got here to SRR. 2. Muhammad Ali - Louis's technical superiority and greater valuable checklist at his top places Ali at #2, nor did Louis earnings from the occasional questionable judging. yet his checklist on the precise is surpassed in ordinary terms by making use of Louis. 3. Larry Holmes - had a large consecutive run of identify defences, and had a jab which became a component of splendor. 4. Lennox Lewis - acceptable prolonged checklist as a beltholder of any HW different than the precise 3, marred by making use of two lapses of concentration (else he might nicely have been #a million.) by no ability outboxed in the hoop with the available exception of his very final defence, and the acceptable huge guy ever to lace them up. like the overvalued Marciano, between the only 2 fighters who won the HW identify to triumph over each and every guy he confronted. And the only one below the precise 3 who would desire to probable beat all the precise 3. 5. Jack Johnson. difficulty-free to forget how good his identify checklist became (I comprise the so-observed as "colored identify"), and he became famed in his day for his honestly pugilistic ability, not in ordinary terms his power (nevertheless he became huge for the time). to respond to a prior poster - Marciano's opposition became destructive. Charles and Walcott have been previous - honestly shopworn - Moore became historical, and Don Cockell became very limited.

I wouldn`t have Liston in there. Outside of that the rest deserve consideration.
