Most departments have excellent insurance benefits and the pay for the most part is pretty good, however, this depends on the department. You also receive another family, as most in law enforcement provide a sense of support and understanding to fellow officers.
In addition, law enforcement officers one of the better retirement plans as compared to other professions.

In Mass we get 80% of our best 3 years, after 32 years. But we also have details at $40/hr so it is very easy to get over 100k a year. And then you may also factor in the Quinn Bill

not sure of a police officer but i'm a correctional officer at the State Prison in Arkansas. as being employed with the State of Arkansas i have great state benefits. such as Medical for myself and my family,dental for myself and my family, great life insurance for myself and my family,great retirement benefits,it's just a really great job to have and i thank GOD for allowing me to get it so that i can better provide for my wife and son.
