I have seen that on my electronic outdoor devices that are "waterproof" and I was curious what actually standards they must meet..

"Waterproof" is like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder.

JIS4/CFR46 specification is rated as meeting the "splashproof" test, IE you can take it for a walk in the rain or shower.

The ad says "usable in any environment" - "environment" does not mean underwater.

You have to go to JIS7 for it to be submersible. and that is like 3 ft for 30 min.

Watches have the same kind of classification. "Water resistant" = "splashproof".
