Islam technically means Acceptance. Acceptance of the Will of the Almighty Lord, over our own personal wills. Thus a Muslim (Arabic) is a person who has accepted the Will of the Almighty in his life. We believe Adam was thus the first Muslim, technically, as he was taught to obey the Almghty and accepted this condition under his free will that was given to him. Thus Islam can not be forced on a person, as that would essentially the destroy the whole concept of willing accepting the Will of the Almighty in your life.

After Adam, the next great "Muslim" or Acceptor of the Will of The Lord Almighty was Noah. When he was ordered to build a ship on land, he did not question the Lord but obeyed.

Abraham was in the same chain of Acceptors or Muslims who obeyed and left his home and took the dangerous journey through the desert to reach the Promised land, but through a detour through Egypt which caused Sarah's capture by the Pharoah of Egypt and acquisition of Hagar which was later to split the children of Abraham.

When Jacob or Israel was the next Acceptor or Muslim in the line of the grand men who obeyed the commands of the Almighty, in total obedience and many times at great risks to themselves and their loved ones!

Ultimately the grand savior came in the form of Moses who saved the ACCEPTORS of the Lord's commands who were enslaved in Egypt.

Ultimately Jesus came as the final ACCEPTOR of the Commands of the Lord. By the time he came the Laws of Justice were already fine tuned and it was time to bring the laws of Mercy to the World and the time was ripe to bring the fruit of the tree of acceptance to the entire globe!!

When Jesus was rejected, it created the opportunity to fulfill the promise to Hagar, in whose lineage the final Acceptor, the Seal of the Prophets came in Mecca, who required of his adherents to accept all the Acceptors that went before him and also the books these great men brought to the World.

Thus Islam started with Adam and its last Prophet in our belief came in 1400 AD, who completed the laws for all gentiles. Now is the phase of implementation. Ultimately in our belief all of humanity will accept the Laws of the Almighty, One and ALL, when peace will dawn!!

I hope this makes sense.

Long after Abraham. It all began in about 600 CE when one Muhammad claimed to have been given verses by an angel of god. Eventually, these were set down in what is now called the Qur'an. (Correct pronunciation of this word by a speaker of English is difficult; the Q is sort of like a hard G, and the apostrophe represents a letter that exists in the Arabic languages but in no others spoken on the planet. The closest approximation is an A spoken from the back of the throat.) Like all religious texts, it has errors, some of them so serious that they adversely affect Islamic societies to the present day.

Muslims believe in all prophets and messengers that Christians
believe including Adam(First one), Moses, Abraham, Jesus to
Mohammad(last one).
Also Muslims believe, Islam was revived with every messenger
and was perfected with the Last Prophet.
They also believe, that all the work Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac,
Moses, Jesus. The difference is, they do not believe as either
Father or Son of God.

So in this sense, Islam religion(Muslims) exists from the
beginning. One can argue the validity....it is for individual to
believe it or not.

After Abraham had Ismael with his Arab maid. Sarah * Abrahams' wife* hated her for it! *Even though it was her idea* and kicked her out. And that's when it all started.
That's why the Arabs ad the Jews don't get along. They're still fighting for land. * the land that God gave to Abraham for being obedient* I know this is true because God said He would bless the land of Ismael. And since Ismael was Arab that means that God blessed the Arabs with oil. The Jews are blessed also.

Thanks for asking this question.
Have a good one :-)

Islam began as a world religious movement in the first decade of the seventh century C.E. in the city of Makkah (Mecca) in Arabia. It was taught by Muhammad, son of 'Abdullah, of the tribe of Quaraysh and the clan of Hashim. When Muhammad was forty years old, he began to have visions in which God sent down a series of revelations through the Angel Gabriel. The revelations, recited in Arabic form, were a disclosure not of God, but of His will or commandments
