Europeans have an prolonged complicated history with France. The French as quickly as tried to truly take over the full continent and practically succeded in doing so. The French saved the British from starting to be a member of the european an prolonged time in the past (by vetoing club for Britian) and the French and the Germans are vying for who wil be the dominant usa contained in the european. French attitudes and techniques on occasion rub different worldwide places the incorrect way. France has long resented the actuality that the U.S. is the dominant and unquestioned chief of the Western powers. The U.S. resents the actuality that France is complicated to get alongside with and does not want to "toe the line" while it comprises particular subjects. as an occasion, contained in the 60's, France withdrew their forces from Nato command or maybe in the present day needs a eu defense force stress (which might seem to 3 to make Nato out of date). France additionally has a history of advertising weapons to those that Britain and the U.S. see as opposed countries.

Appeasement to the enemies of the U.S. is one. Turkey asked for NATO protection when the U.S. invaded and allies invaded Iraq, but all there was from France was crickets. Turkey gets attacked from the Kurds and probably invoked the NATO charter for help, but again the sound of crickets from France. France, Germany and Russia tried to form some sort of recent diplomatic action against the U.S. The leadership in both Germany and France lost their elections because of that.
France went into Lebanon recently to disarm Hezzbolah and free the Israeli soldiers. Then when they got in, they hunkered down demanding the Lebanese troops do that work. The Lebanese troops and the nation as a whole believe that Hezbolah is the real military in Lebanon or at least did when the French moved in.
The French have different bragging rights. For instance they claim to have a better society (education, healthcare, long vacations), yet thier economy rivals the unemployment rate of the U.S. in the 70s, their native population is shrinking from the low birth rate and their military is so small, it could probably be defeated by the present day Iraqi army (that's not just happening to France, since Norway is now said to have a larger navy than England) and their taxes are so high that if those taxes were in the U.S., everyone would become a Republican. Recently the French police don't patrol all of France and have been getting their butts kicked from the Muslim population in France but still mock the U.S. in Iraq.

The US and French are technically not allies, but for all intents and purposes, we are. They, however, are not. French troops helped in the Gulf War (1991). Americans helped in Vietnam. The Americans did bail out the French once, in 1944, but in 1918, we did not save them, just shortened an already far too protracted conflict. The reason Americans and French have their mutual, if not hate, then disrespect, is probably due to French and American interests going just a tad bit out of line with each other (in other words, we're fighting for different purposes.).
The biggest problem was that (don't hurt me, French!) moron de Gaulle. Far to arrogant for his own good, withdrew from NATO, kept French troops in Germany not to help but to occupy a territory that was carved from the American region though they gave little effort to the war beyond the three days it took the Nazis to conquer them, held on to an empire though empires around the world were hated, had France fight in Indochina, refused to help the earliest Americans fight in Indochina, and all around caused problems.

I don't think many or all Americans hate the French. I think they are put off by the stereotype that French people have of being smug and thinking they are better than everyone else,(which can be said about Americans as well) but most intelligent people recognize that you can't judge or generalize a whole country or group of people by or from a stereotye or by the actions of a few.

The US and France have been supporting eachother for a long time and some petty squabbles by some ****** on youtube and the occasional French bashing joke isn't going to change that.
In short, the US doesn't hate the French.

Well we did help them in the world wars, but thats not it. It also has nothing to do with them bailing out of Veitnam. You see the French government, was helping Saddam right before the invasion of Iraq. The French were selling Iraq, information on U.S. troop strength and capabilities. The French a supposed ally was helping our enemies. The proof was found in the Iraqi Government buildings in Baghdad, during the invasion. Plus they dress funny. :)

Because too many people believe in an all-or-nothing with-us or against-us mentality.
France was not 100% in mindless lock-step with the US, thus France must be a terrorist enemy.
It's the kind of irrational non-thinking that most humans grow out of by the time they hit middle school.
Sadly, it's becoming more and more the norm in the US.

Try to engage a Frenchman involved in a political discussion and you'll quickly learn why they are what they are and why they don't like us.
France was a great empire at one time and had many colonies. But they lost them all and have never forgotten it. They want to be great again, but don't know how to do it now. I think they are jealous of us because of our power, our lifestyles, our clothing, our democratic way of living, etc.
