I have some sliced almonds that are beyond the expiration date and are just mildly rancid. If I toast them and add them to a salad, they taste perfectly fine. But I'm only "sucking it up" for the sake of some nutritional value (rather than throw them out). Am I getting any and what's the harm if I'm not? They haven't made me sick yet.

"Rancid" means that the oils have oxidized, and changed chemical structure. The more rancid, the more oxidized, and the less of the oil-based nutrition (vitamin E, for example) there will be. If you can stand the taste, so be it.

If they smell bad, too, that could be bacteria and/or mold in the nuts. I would then throw them out.
