though the Catholics have gone out of their way to become more understanding and ecumenical, Protestants continue bad-mouthing them in their churches. They say Catholics worship Mary. That is not true. Worship belongs to God alone. We honor Mary as Jesus did. They say Catholics are not Christians...
Don't they know that the Catholic church is the original Christian Church, that for 1500 years there existed no other Christian community except the church? Did not Jesus promise to protect his church from error? People, even priests, bishops, etc. commit many sins because they are human. However, the church is still the church he founded. That same mass that was prayed in the catacombs in ancient Rome continues today in all the Catholic churches of the world. And without the church carefully keeping the sacred writings which later became the bible, the world would not have the bible at all.

It's called membership stats.

The Protestants HAVE to bash the Catholics and CONVINCE everyone that they have the truth so that people will keep going to their particular church (members = money). The funny thing is that you'll see baptists bash lutherans, lutherans bash anglicans, and each bash the other because neither believes the same things but each claims to have Christ's true teachings.

The Catholic Church IS Christ's true Church (a point re-emphasized by Pope Benedict), and will always be Christ's true Church. Period. The Protestants just need to get with the program and become Catholic.

The Jewish church of the Old Testament believed they were the only church and that God would never reject them - but He did. The church of Rome has also believe they are the only true church and that God would never leave them. I would agree that is true until the Protestant Reformation when many a Catholic through off Roman tradition and returned to the scripture, and the true traditions of the early church.

However I do not hate Catholics. I was raised a Roman Catholic, served as an altar boy and considered being a priest. Many of my relatives, (one is a priest and two are nuns) - I love and only want them to return to a plan understanding of the Bible.

Lutherans and Anglicans are no less the Church than are the Eastern Orthodox, and we do not rail against Catholics, though we do teach against certain Catholic doctrines.

As for 1500 years of one Church, it's true that the radical reformers were the first to simultaneously affirm the Nicene Creed and deny the sacraments, so you'd have a point if you were just talking about them. But denial of Papal supremacy didn't suddenly spring into existence 500 years ago; it's existed to one degree or another all along.

I would assume you are Catholic. So deduct that you most likely have not been to many protestants churches.

In all my life I have NEVER heard the Catholic Church bad mouthed from the pulpit. And I have attended quite a few different denominations.

Read your Bible
It reads, Peter's wife's mother laid sick of a fever
Matt 8:14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.

Mary had sons and daughters as it refers to Jesus mother and sisters and brothers
Matt 12:48 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee

call no man father
Matt 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
for starters
I believe in all churches some are being deceived and should ask The Father to lead and guide us into all truth like He promised The Holy Spirit would
we need to watch and pray
this is not meant to offend but to help, speaking the truth in love

Dear Barb,

What do you call the Pope's latest tyrade?

I've never preached against the Catholic Church once.

I've never heard anyone other preacher preach against the Catholic Church once.

Why are you so paranoid?

Pastor Art

PS: I do answer questions from the Bible.

Excuse me, but wasn't it your pope that said last week that the Catholic Church is the only true church? Who's preaching intolerance now?

Even funnier is that if it weren't for the Catholics, Protestants wouldn't exist.

wrong....

Jesus did protect his true church from error when Martin Luther nailed the 95 thesis to the door...the Protestant Reformation returned us to the original teachings that had been altered by Catholicism....

I pray for them all every night. Dont let them bother you, I use to. Some of these posts had me in tears, but I've learned to let it all slide. They are ignorant or rebelling and that is not my fault.
