It violates the principle of trusting God with your future. When you gamble you are in effect saying that you know better than God. Also you want him to bless your finances, like in the parable of the servants with the three talents. He wants you to prosper but in a way that will bring you closer to him. Examples of this would be: working hard, inventing something or wisely investing something. Gambling is a get-rich quick type of deal and God's not into fast solutions as a general rule. Another way that you can kind of know that gambling's bad is its effect on other people. It 's simply not healthy. Look at all the people who lose their homes and wreck their marriages b/c of gambling.
I hope this helps,

I could never find a scripture forbidding gambling. I don't see the harm in buying an occasional scratch ticket or playing an occasional friendly game of poker with your friends but if you start to get the gambling fever and get additcted to it, that's when it becomes sin for the bible says that anything that enslaves you is sin.

I see nothing wrong with spending a day at the racetrack and losing twenty bucks or something like that, to imply that all wagering is sin seems to be a bit legalistic to me.
The Bible does however say that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil (not money, but the love of it) so if one becomes obsessed with gambling, for the love of money, therein lies the difference.

christians in all denominations like to use the passage where the roman soldiers gambled for Jesus's clothes to say it's a sin. In fact, this was a common practice for all crucified.

This one comes close...
Isa 55:2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
This one comes even closer....
1Ti 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1Ti 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
What is the purpose of gambling? Isn't it because you covet money? Think about it.

The bible tells us that Jesus was angry at them gambling in the temple of God and drove the money changers out. So somehow it appears that Jesus is opposing of gambling but only in the santuary. The bible also says that render unto Ceasar that is Ceasar and render unto God what belongs unto him. The bible says condemn not yourself in the things that you allow, so your righteous judgement, pray aboput it for youjrself.

No, but greed is fleshly and wicked according to the Bible, and I think gambling is classified as that. Besides it is stupid to run a risk to lose.
