This area on a boy or girl should be referred to as their "privacy" and no one is allowed to touch them or see their privacy except Mommy & Daddy & the Caretakers & the Doctor.
"This is your privacy"...period. Vagina is a little too specific for a 3 year old...and that's only the 1 part not the whole area.

My suggestion would be to answer those questions an honestly as possible using either anatomy books or even the dictionairy. This way your child can always count on YOU to get the truth, even if it is uncomfortable or even unplaisant. This will make a bond between parent and child that will set honesty, support and confidence that is so vital for a good and positive growth. Besides, they will hear all kinds of "****" out there, no need to twist the truth any further...

all 4 of my girls call it their "pee pee" and they seem to be doing just fine. (6, 3, 2, and 2)
i don't mind people teaching their children to call it a vagina but i think 3 is a tad young for that. for one thing they do not understand what is and is not appropriate and i could see my 3 year old shouting it out at the top of her lungs in church or something lol

At our house we always called a front hiney and a back hiney. That way if something hurt/ itched/ whatever it was said "my back hiney hurts". At 3 the girls were never really interested in their vagina mostly just where pee and poop come from. Later when they realized there was a 3rd it then was called a vagina.

They tell you not to make up names for our body parts as many of us do. They say it is vagina so teach them vagina. I myself am not a stickler about things like this. My daughter has my granddaughter calling hers a cha-cha. When I was little i was taught to call it my susie.

Just teach her to call it her privates or the one our little girls refered to it was thier tee tee. Also since she is getting curious now is a great time to have the talk about your privates being your privates and not supposed to let people touch them. My children were molested at 3 and 5 yrs and thankfully I had already had that talk and told them if someone touched them or asked them to touch someones privates they should tell. My 3 year old was a brave little girl and told her teacher about someone touching her tee tee. The teacher told me and I had it taken care of. The perpertrator got 27 years. So its definately not too early for you to have that talk.

Personally, I would just call it what it is. A vagina. But I remember growing up calling it a pee-pee.

my daughter is 2 and a half and we refer to the girl private area as a "tutti" the boys is a "pee pee bird." A butt is a butt. lol...Ultamately its up to you to decide what works best in your home. Where we live all little girls call it a "tutti" tho.

my bfnds 2yo dghtr calls it a who who. her mom taught her that.
just think of something like that.
calling it something discrespectful is out of the question and don't know why anyone would even think of saying that or mention that to a child.

just have her call it a pee pee that is what I do with my son even though he can say penis pretty well and he is only 2. My ex sister in law had my niece call hers a peach (wrong thing to do) it only led to legal problems with my younger bro (not going to explain)
