I spoke with my recruiter and he was telling me about vacation while on active duty. He said that you get a month of vacation a year. I know that you can't go while in Boot Camp obviously, but can you go on vacation while on active duty?

Can you go abroad? I would love to go to Australia and the Carribean, could I do that?

Also, they said that you get discounts on Flights as a Marine, and they also said you can fly for free on US military flights, is any of that true?

Please shed light, I greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

You can travel anywhere you like while on leave. There are some countries that have restrictions they are usually third world country, you may want to check with your chain of command, once you get to your unit. About military flights they are free, but they are unreliable and the space is not guarantee that's why most of the people travel by commercial plane while on leave. The discounts on flights are OK but is up to the airline and they change all the time. You can get as good of a deal if not better if you look around at least 14 days before your flight. I have travel to most Europe , Mexico and Australia while on leave its never been a problem for me just make sure your back to work on time.

Yes, you earn 2.5 days of leave time every month.

You can go on leave where ever you can afford to go on leave to.

The military doesn't pay for your vacation.

Yes, some airlines offer discounts to the military.

Yes, you can fly space available on military flights. It does cost $10.00 if you are flying overseas.

But flying on a military hop is an iffy thing.

You can be bumped off the flight by others with higher priorties, and their is not always room for passengers.

Plus, you can end up on waiting list for several days, all the while, your using leave time.
