I am going to have my first eye exam in 2 weeks and I have been reading a lot about what happens and asking questions to lots of people, but what I haven't gotten cleared up is:

If the doctor decides to do a dilation test, will I still be able to have a contact fitting? Or will they want to schedule another appointment?

The dilation affects only your iris, the muscle you see when you look at someone's eye and observe a colored ring around the pupil, and the muscle that affects the shape of the lense. It does not affect your cornea. Dilation should not affect a contact fitting, it would only affect your ability to see up close and your eye's ability to shut out bright light.

Ask your optomistrist. I got my eyes dilated first and then got fitted for new contact lenses the same day, but had to wait about 15-20 minutes to get fitted. Most likely you'll schedule another appointment anyway to see how your contacts are for your eyes.

It's far easier to the eye doc to treat you with your eyes dilated. Tell him of your fear of that and I'm sure he can use a solution that will be short acting. Don't forget to bring a good pair of polarized sunglasses with you to wear when you go out of the building.

This depends on the doctor. If you make clear before the exam that you would like to go home with a pair of contact lenses, then maybe they can do the dilated exam on one of your follow up exams.

Depends on the doctor if they decide to do both on the same day then you'll do the fitting before the dilation. You could always call and check. :]
Good Luck!

depends on the doctor... I've gotten dialation and contacts in the same day at some eye doctors... and some that don't do dialation when you're getting contacts... or in the case of some places, like say a Wal-Mart vision center, they don't do dialation anyway!

Im just guessing here but if youre going in for contacts, Im pretty sure they'll do the fitting first before the dialation.
