Your dog may have full anal sacs. They may need expressing.

I'll make a wager that your dog has worms. Worms cause a dog's bottom to itch badly and therefore your dog is scratching their butt the best they can. It's either that or his diet has too much acid in it and it is burning his bottom. In either case, you need a vet check as soon as possible because there are some forms of worms that are not treatable by the medication on the market for worms. Get him a worm culture by taking a fresh stool to the vet for a culture as soon as the dog goes potty. Then after the culture, if it is worms, it can be treated by medication the vet will give you and if it is something else, the vet can ask you to bring him in. Hope that helps. Worms can be spread to humans too so I recomment you do not delay to long on that.

Two reasons could be worms or full anal glands. Call your vet and have it checked out. If anal glands are the reason, feeding your dog a small amount of canned pumpkin can help prevent it from happening again.

Its either "wiping" or its irritated...dogs have these things called anal glands, there realy disgusting but if dogs dont have them expressed by a vet or groomer, they can get irritated around that area and may need to have surgery.

Sometimes feces gets collected around the anus and when it dries there it makes the dog itch. Dragging the butt helps scratch the itch.

It's most likely anal sacs, but it could be worms. Either way, I'd rather let the vet handle it.
