From an article from the KC Star today:

"The Springfield area man and his children were on a church trip, and he said the whole experience had been like “an outdoor version of the Jerry Springer Show.”

“I was shocked,” he said. “This is my first time down here. I won’t come again. It’s not family-oriented.”

When I read his statement that 'he was shocked'.... LIAR!!!!

Now, I'm a Christian and from the KC area, I know what happens when you float on the Niangua River in MO. It's infamous for parties!!! If you live in this state...you know!!!

What Church would take their family and church group to a party river?

Their are party floats and family floats. Wouldn't YOU check out the place and the enviroment before you sent your Church kids down there?

*** Let me add this... I didn't mean to imply that only Christians have morals. I know that every group wants their children protected!!! Sorry!

Yes, I believe Jesus would be there. But I don't believe for 1 second that he'd take children there. My husband and I were Children's Ministers for a long time and we went on plenty of float trips with them. It's our responsibilty as parents/leaders to ensure that we are taking our children to a safe place.

I live on a city along the Mississippi River and we have had similar bad experiences along public walkways when there isn't even a festival going on. Women flashing, fights out of nowhere, etc. For the most part, daytime is great for kids. The later it gets, the riskier it becomes. I feel there should have been a check made with officials, for the safety and the "General Audience Rating" you would naturally want for a church activity even if no children were present. Maybe he was from out of the area, all the more reason too educate himself. You have shown by your postings that you are a great example and a true follower of Christ. I already know you are forgiving your brother, but it never pays to rile a mother bear with cubs! [ Actually put that way in the Old Testament.]
Edit: Missy, you should read up. There were plenty of Roman orgies at the time, and I don't recall Him visiting even one. He was in very public places that were naturally going to have plenty of sinners. The ones that were drawn to Him had a desire to change, not revel in lewdness. The woman at the well was surprised He would even talk to her, but He did because He saw her heart.

In my church everyone is very careful where they take the children just for reasons like that. We know that we will protect them but they don't need to hear partying on a church trip. There have even been places that they have not taken the children that I thought were OK.

I am not really involved in the Children's Ministry but I do help with games and giving rides, etc. and I know no one wants to give anyone a chance to complain about something going wrong on a church based trip. We are very careful about that.

Everyone is also careful that the youth group does not act up either and give the church a bad name.

I like the Current or Jack's Fork river better, but that's just my taste in rivers. I'm a Pagan and have few of the hangups of Christians, but I would check with the State wildlife people (no pun intended) and game wardens before going down any River, they usually know what's going on and actually enjoy having a conversation about it. They were taking children and you didn't mention whether they even checked the water conditions. Kids can die in a class 3 and with all the rain this year even ones might have jumped that high.

I think you need to calm down! :)

It sounds like you are judging this man, and maybe, just maybe, he didn't know about the reputation of these float trips...It is possible, you know? Maybe he just moved there...Maybe he isn't from the area...

To answer your question,..."What Church would take their family and church group to a party river?" Well, all I know is that we (Christians) are to live in this world but not be of the world...Didn't Jesus hang out with sinners? I'm guessing if Jesus were back on earth, walking amongst us in a human form, He would be hanging out with those sinners on the float trip...Seriously, I think He would be there...Don't you think so? Jesus hung out with sinners but He never sinned...

I definitely get back to the person who made the reservations.
And one little thing going wrong is going make him not even consider other places is a bit severe. Lots of things don't go right the 1st. time.
