Finger painting, colouring, going to the local park, reading bright books put down a bowl of water with a few bubbles in it- hours of entertainment there!
Ask your sister what she does to keep her baby occupied.

I have an 18 month boy and he just loves it when we get down and play with him. All those suggestions of painting, parks, pots and pans etc.. are spot on for him!
He also loves toy cars, sand pits, round balls of all sizes, playdough, peek-a-boo etc...
The playdate idea was a good one. It's important that you have some adult time too, as long as the babe is safe.
Keep a close eye on him, my boy is curious about everything and would get into all sorts of mischief if I wasn't alert all the time! :-)
Above all, have fun with him. If you're having fun playing, he will be too.
Good luck :-)
PS: I wouldn't bother too much with the amusement park stuff. He won't get the benefit from it yet and it might be a bit overwhelming for him.

I have a 16 month old.... she loves doing all kinds of things. The park, being outside in general, coloring, finger painting, going to the zoo (she loved it if she could get close to the animals to see them like the fish), swimming. I also took her to a carnival last week... she loved going on the carousel! At this age they are happy doing just about anything!

I would save the amusement park and movie theater for when he gets older. The park is a nice outing. If you can, arrange a playdate with another toddler. Find out if there is a storytime for toddlers at your local library or bookstore. Get a book or two while you are there, they love it when you read to them. Soap bubbles and play dough (make them or buy them) are lots of fun. Keep it simple. and most of all, play with him!

Little kids like the park a lot. Room to run and be loud!! Also your local museum may have things for younger kids. McDonalds play land might be nice -lots of kids and fun stuff to do.

try this site www.dltk-kids.org my kids of all ages love it! Lots of ideas to do. But just play, go to the park, spending alot of money going to amusement parks and stuff she really won't care. Also probbly get tired out very quickly.

Bubbles, balloons, lots of containers, a kiddie pool with cups or other containers to play in, ice-pops (outside only of course). Good luck!
