To treat a human being (His own creation) in such fashion for a bet with the devil is one of the worst sins I have come across and this is from our own God.

Will my sympathy for Job and my distaste of how God treated him block my passage into heaven and take me to the depths of hell?

And if so why?

My apologies I don't want to upset anyone over this question. I know it was a test but it also seems as if God took Satans bait by using Job in this manner.

Good question and one that ALL who, seriously, study Bible doctrine, grapple with.

C.G. Jung had a tough time with the issue as have countless men and women. What makes it even tougher is: the last 10 chapters were added on and are nonsense. Imagine Job peaking to elihu .."Oh get off your high horse you ignoramus, of course, the critters do God's will - they can't do otherwise"...and.."I never questioned God's power; I am challenging Him about His fairness !!"

I might add: and just how exactly does one get their children "restored" 2,5 or tenfold? Gad....what utter bull butter.

I would imagine that your distaste about this will not keep you out of heaven and hell bound; but, it will 'eat you alive'. That is, it is a source of scorn, contempt and unforgiveness toward God and that is very dangerous territory. I do hope that this post of mine helps you sort some of this out.

You are welcome to e mail me: I have studied this issue, in depth, and have some intriguing answers and perspectives.

And, yes, God got "bamboozled" to use Jung's word; in the 'wager' over Job. But, so many archetypal and epochal issues were also being addressed that God let Job be tortured. And stood by as his 'sorry comforters' regurgitated the 'thinking of the day'.

Perhaps you should read Job again. If you feel angry at God for what happened to Job, then you missed the point of the story all together. You are like the characters in the story. Is God only a good God when things go well for us? For me, even if God never did anything for me again, sending His son to die for my sins is all that He ever had to do for me.

Think about this. If you have the potential to be the best tennis player, but you are not given the opportunity to play, would that be right or wrong?

The Lord Almighty gives people the opportunity to fully realize their potential. He saw in Job the spiritual strength to bear with a lot of hardship and not complain. Thus it was incumbent on him to allow him to go through the suffering, as each suffering was substantially raising the position of Job permanently and loftily in the larger scheme of things.

I believe when you go through some suffering, your spiritual station is increased to a higher level. If you thank the Lord, that station is multiplied many times, if you bear patiently without complaining, your level is also multiplied but not as many times as when you praise the Lord Almighty.

Job in my view would have been one among many, had the Lord not tested him. Because Job had the ability to bear the suffering and yet not complain, it was the duty of the Lord to pass him through those tests. Satan was just an excuse for the events to unfold.

If I know that you have the potential to be the top tennis player in the World and I make you go through the exercise regime and provide you with the best courts to perform, am I wronging you?

Look at the story of JOb and you will see a new paradigm shift in your thinking. Job was blessed by the Holy One by allowing him the opportunity to pass through the hardships.

THAT is why you are discussing Job today who has become timeless and whose works and hardships although temporary have become a beacon of light for many who are faced with hardships in this temporary World.

I hope it makes sense to you brother. May the Lord keep your compassion alive and guide you closer to Him Almighty who never does any wrong to anyone, except when they have a greater benefit in the temporary sufferings of this World.

God did nothing to Job, the devil caused all Job's problems with Job's permission. Job constantly walked in unbelief and was asking over and over for the same thing. He didn't believe God or why would he keep asking for the same thing when he obviously already had received God's blessings. Job was only persecuted for about 9 months and then was doubly blessed by God when he realized he brought all the problems on himself. Who are you to hold God to a standard that he doesn't hold you to?
The only thing that will send you to hell is if you don't choose the way God made for you to go to heaven. Jesus said that He is the way, not anything we do, that we get to heaven.

Job still loved and had faith in God while he was going threw all this, and afterward God blessed Job with more than he had lost. You need to ask God to help you understand this so you can have a forgiving heart. God is always right even when we don't understand.

I would say it is rather presumptuous of you to assume God requires your forgiveness. What God did was give all men an outstanding example of what faith is, how to use it, and what the rewards of it are. Remember that all that was taken from Job was returned to him 10 fold (and change). How could He ever give a better example of a reason to maintain our faith in Him? If we never come under persecution, why do we need faith at all? If we shirk it off at the first sign of trouble, what good was our faith in the first place? Fortunately, I don't think people go to Hell for being idiots, either.

Job wouldn't like what you just said either. People go to Hell for not trusting God. Job trusted God. He would want others to know it just like I would. I know this because I know God too. It's His way to teach that God is trustworthy.

I'm thinking that you didn't understand the story.

If you harbor unforgiveness in your heart or any other unrepented sin for that matter. You will not be forgiven.
