Because Lord Jagannatha is a most merciful form of the Lord, even those who hardly understand the philosophy behind Ratha- yatra become free of many lifetimes of karma just by seeing the festival or taking part in it by chanting, dancing, or helping pull the thick ropes of the chariots. One can even become liberated due to the spiritual potency of Lord Jagannatha's presence.

Those who take part in a Ratha-yatra festival can share in the feelings of Krishna's devotees who drew Him back to Vrindavana with their love. So when we're pulling the cart we're developing our dormant love for Him. Those fortunate souls will get the opportunity to sow the seed of love of God in their hearts, and if they water that seed by continuing to hear and chant the maha-mantra-Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare- that seed will fructify, and the spiritual plant of their love of Godhead will start to grow and grow. Therefore, by bringing this wonderful Ratha-yatra festival to the West, Srila Prabhupada has given us all the opportunity to bring Krishna into our hearts, stimulate our original love for the Lord and enjoy our original blissful life. -

The mighty and kind Lord Jagannatha comes out of His Temple once in a year on the Ratha Yatra day in the mood of Lord Chaitanya to distribute His mercy publicly. The Skanda Purana highly eulogizes the holy sight of and the participation in the Ratha Yatra.

Hare Krishna !

I don't like to write a long answer but I do love to tell exact and simple answer.

What I do know about this Rathayatra festival then it is because those aren't familier about Krishna consciousness then they can know about that. Plus when they chant the maha mantra , ( Hare Krishna Hare Krishna , Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare ) then living entities can get Spiritual benefit. Lord Krishan's is very powerful.

:)

Well, I actually heard about ISKCON from Rathayatra fevstival. When I was 10 years boy ( before 9 years ago from now ) then I first heard about Krishna Consciouness and impressed with them and I bought some books and audio.

I do feel that this is the main purpose behind Rathayatra festival.

Chant the holy name of Krishna and be happy :)

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna , Krishna Krishna Hare Hare!
Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare !!
