Student loans are supposed to be paid back so don't think the government needs to cancel them. They are not grants which Ol' Doc seems to be confused with.
The actual military personnel need money spent on them. They are putting their lives on the line & getting very little out of it. If they survive Iraq & come home injured the government are not providing adequate care.
Unfortunately, the new upgrade program will still not provide for the troops. The people who profit are the suppliers of warfare & the government officials who get kick-backs and/ or have interests in these companies. It's a disgrace.
Lets keep in mind that thousands of young people are not interested in being in the military. They want to learn & be productive members of society & thank God for that. We need clever people. They are not 'hiding' out as some people suggest.

If you enroll in certain programs, such as AmeriCorps, you can qualify to have your loans deferred or reduced.

I am sorry that you feel like it is a burden to pay for higher education, but there are reforms currently happening with the financial aid system that will benefit the borrower. I wonder if you have applied for any grants, which is money that you do not pay back. It takes lots of time and effort, but if you apply for grants it will help reduce your loan amounts signifigantly.

I am currently paying back my student loans, but I made the choice to attend a four-year university, knowning that I would be taking out at least one loan because I did not wait to save up the money first.

I suppose the govt could also pay off your credit cards, car and home loans too. You made the loan, stop whining and pay it, as you agreed. Ever hear of personal responsibility? The govt has no money of it's own, only what it takes from taxpayers. As a taxpayer, I prefer you pay for your own student loan.

Cancel the billions for the military ASAP. we need educated people to run the future, no point in all of them being dead, maimed or traumatised from the experiences of war

it seems to me that our government is only concerned about the military.. isn`t that a shame? with our country in such dire need for medical for all and education.. our president is all about war.. and who and where can we invade next..all you ever hear is Iraq.. i don`t hear about Afghanistan where this war should of been located in the first place.. bin laden is the one that had 9/11 executed... but most of our troops are in Iraq.. and pretty much the only reason we are still in iraq is to keep the oil safe for those in our government to stay rich.. they have oil under their finger nails..

Okay, so you went to school, borrowed a bunch of money and now you feel you don't have to pay it back. How big of a hypocrite are you? Next time just stay on welfare so you don't have to pay the money back. Freeloaders like you make me sick.
