Devi Dasi says ":- Maya (illusion) that is what this world is."
______________________________________

World is made up of material--please read the Vedam correctly, which says "Aatman Nityam-Jagat Mithya"--Aathma is Eternal & the World is ever changing, destructible and not Eternal. All the Three Acharyas Sarva sri.Sankara ,Ramanuja and Madwa agree. World is Achetanam & Aatman is Chetanam--so -"Chaitanyam"--Vedam says "Ekaiva Brahmam Satyam-Param naasthi"=there is ONE and Only Brahmam(Aatman):there is no second One.sri Acharya Sankara asks,"If what Vedam says is true and if there is only ONE Brahman(Aatman)where does the quetion of Two(Dwaitha) arise ?
Brahman is immanent and all pervasive and all imbibisive-Veda Maha Vaakyams are "Tat twam Asi"-Aham Brahmaasmi"--As happy_n_freeone says "This world is not maya, but our conceptions---are."conception"& "Maya" both are Psychic traits-not material. So conception of "Jeeva"&"Parama" is Maya-Not World.Only One Aathman(Brahmam) exists

Maata:-"Maya means you are covered over by ignorance"-
Let my knowledge or my Adyayanam lead me anyywhere-it is my concern-First you learn the etymology and Ontology of Sanskrit words correctly when you use tem--otherwise better do not use Sanskrit words and expose your IGNORANCE!!!!.---"Yaa -Maa-sa Maayaa=theone(Yaa) Maa(does not exist) --sa=that one--is "Maayaa''--Before You venture to correct others you learn thoroughlyYou clean your house first before cleaning other's house.--Recall the vedic dictum "Swaadhyaaya Pravachanaabyam Naha Pramathi Thavyam"=without Swaadhyaayam you do not attempt Pravachanam--Your GURU has not taught you correctly-unfortunate!!!!!

My dear happy_n_freeone---Thank you very much for your kind sentiments-I am fully aware and written in one of my postings that sri,Madwa Acharya was an Intellectual Giant of hummongous/ gargantuan dimensions. You will agree with an old adage "Do unto others what you expect others to do unto you."So long as sri-la sri.Prabhupaadhaa's disciples call Adwaitins as "Maya Vaadhis"(rerogatory terminology) and talking in a derogatory language about sri Sankara Acharya(another intellectual giant of Hindu religion) and calling the Supreme Lord -GOD sri.Siva who is worshipped by sri.Krishna also as Dwarapalaka (gate keeper) of sri.Krishna -the adwaitins have to give "Appropriate' replies. I have not called any body a "FOOL" in my reply-I request you to please notice that.I have the right tko differ in Vedhanta. As you have rightly pointed out you will stick to what you think right and ,iwill stick to what ,I think is right.

My dear ssrvj,

my understanding is that this world is where maya is active. Maya covers the tiny insignificant jiva atma here and causes the individuals here to identify with matter, to think I am happy_n_freeone, I live in hawaii, I am a female, this is my mother, and my siblings, I live in my house, I'm typing on my computer, I own a cow, etc etc.

Actually, this is conception of mine is an illusion, I do not know my true self, nor do I know the true self of anyone here. I also do not know para bhraman either, or my relationship with the Supreme Truth. This is due to the action of maya.

As far as your other statements about advaitavad, I have already disagreed with you there, so no need to go into it. As Narkesu rightly said, there are two schools of thought, going back very far and also presently followed, and they are not in agreement on this point. How can I convince you of this side, and how can you convince me of your side? It will simply become a big debate which I do not want...

Lord Buddha I accept as an avatar of God, but I do not totally follow his philosophy.
Similarly, Sripad Sankaracarya (none other than Lord Sivaji) holds my greatest respect, but I do not follow His teachings.

I follow the teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu coming from Madhvacarya.
the Brahma Madhva Gaudiya sampradaya.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu has revealed perfect harmony from the various statements of the vedas which are difficult for people (especially those of kalyug) to understand.

I'm sorry if I have disturbed you. I don't want to uselessly debate but.....
If you really want to know my viewpoint, then only in a happy mood, not one of slandering and name calling I will speak of Caitanya Mahaprabhu's beautiful harmony of the vedam.

Do you want this?, if not let's not discuss.

But I am asking you, please do not make offenses by slandering the name of pure saints. It is very very disturbing, and of no good to you also!

I will only discuss this tender point of philosophy in a respectful and happy mood please.

I am not an atheist or a Christian or subscribe to any religious dogma. I do know with the wholeness of my being that there is not the end of the world in 2012. There is a change happening. It is no more the end of the world than the industrial revolution or invention of the wheel was the end. Big things are in the works, but they have already begun. Nothing scary yet, right? Mankind will be a bit more free. There will be some aggitation. Even some warfare. But not the end.

you are asking a question-is the world Maya? you ask but then you tell--do you want to learn something or do you just wish to debate? Maya means you are covered over by ignorance- all your book knowledge will come like a big cheat and toss you off into the ocean of samsar-- you will have no rescue- since you can't swim what will happen? your mirror is your guru--but your mirror is also ignorant--maya makes you think you are intelligent although you are the biggest fool! that is maya and you are fully in maya dear sir--

edit
Ah ha--just as I thought -sorry but I'm not into the poison of debate! I had a feeling that was what you are all about! And since your cup is overflowing with useless jnan --you don't really need to ask any questions do you?

The world is real and not maya. It will take a lot of faith to believe it is real. What I can offer is a world view that this world is real where definition of the reality I am mentioning is within the biblical context. This world is real in the sense that there is God who created this for the purpose of giving its inhabitants a paradise to live with their creator. This purpose made this world real.

Brahma said "Moving on, the red slayer slays." I take that to mean that Death is the gift of Maya. Otherwise there would be no chance of regeneration. It isn't life that's the illusion. It's Death, the utimate illusion, that enables us to forget and rebuild the cycle anew.
