Out of that selection, naturally Delta (SFOD-D). Out of the entire world? SAS (which is what Delta was based on). But you still got Germany's GSG-9, and France's GIGN/EPIGN

There's many tough units in the world.

Two part answer from me. First off I think that Delta has to be the best based on stories I've heard and due to the fact that they recruit from the other SF units.

Secondly, The Seals are one incredible group of people. I served USN 1989-1992, and had the opportunity to get friendly with a couple of guys who were seals. We were neighbors in an off base apartment building. The things these guys did just in training was beyond belief. The very few operational things they shared with me after us knowing each other for years were mind boggling. They would have have sounded like a reading out of some Clancy, Ludlum, or other fictional authors, book. You'd hear the story and say, "oh, thats got to be made up, no way can people do that stuff". The old saying that truth is stranger than fiction would definitely apply.

So I think about those Seals/my buds and what they did/do, and then am amazed that all of those things, only qualifies them to be recruited to Delta Force. I'm glad they are on our side.

I rank Delta and Seals Devgru on the same plane. I rank the CIA Paramilitary up there too, like Delta they recruit out of all the ranks but they also have the cover of the shadows when they work. Marine Force Recon isn't a special forces group but the Marines do have Marsoc now, i dont know alot about them.

Delta Force

I am no expert on matters SF but Delta does not recruit from anywhere but US Army SF to my knowledge. As for comparisons it just depends on the mission in question. When it comes to long term interaction and counterinsurgency ops I would certainly choose the regional SF group. Now if I am taking down a ship with hostages I'd go with the SEAL's. If calling in naval gunfire is the mission then the US Marines are the way to go. That's what "SF" is all about, the variety of tools and training to accomplish the mission. It's tailor made combat ops.

Delta Force.

Marine Force Recon is not special forces classified. Just their version of a 'high speed' infantry.

Delta, obviously.

It recruits from other SF and specialized ranks -- SEALs, Recon, Army SF, Rangers, etc.

There is only one special force and that's the U.S. Green Berets. If you mean special operations it's split. The last time I checked, Germany's special operation forces were winning the special operations version of Top Gun, The U.S. Seal team has all the toys, and Israel's had decades of on the job training.

The British SAS. They were the inspiration for the creation of Delta, and have been in the game longer.
