Archaeologists have found a thick layer of ash underneath the surface, and the remains of buildings that burned from the roof down. What is the atheists explanation for this?

And if you don't know what happened to the city of Soddom. It was a city spoken about in the Old Testament, that was dominated by homosexual sin. God burned rained fire and brimstone on it.

Volcanic activity eh? This is the middle east..remember? What are the odds that there was just a fire..that burned absolutely everything to the ground. I'm sorry its too obvious to be a coincidence to me.

Its not the evidence thats the issue, its how you interpret it. But to me this confirms the biblical account to be true.

Actually I do have sources. Non-internet sources. I didn't make this stuff up. I have a few books on biblical archaelogy and have read this more than once.
And yes God loves everyone, but he is a just God as well.

Nice try. But why on earth do you oppose God and try to appeal to those of which God told us would be here?
The atheist, is totally in harmony with the prophetic words of God. If they were not here, then the prophecy would be false.
2 Peter 3:3 For YOU know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires 4 and saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep [in death], all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning.”

I'm not an atheist, nor am I a scientist but I'd say there could be many explanations for the supposed thick layers of ash found at the site. Natural (lightning strikes) or man made, arson, could have caused a fire and burned a large number of buildings...I seem to recall a fire in Chicago around 1871 or so that was pretty difficult to stop due to the close proximity of the buildings and materials used in the buildings. The fire spread rapidly and I'm sure created layers of ash on the surface after it was all over.

maybe they had a freak lightning storm.. it can happen.. and would explain it "raining fire" or... maybe it was meteors (which burn up in the earths atmosphere.. but it is just as possible as a crazy god showering fire from nowhere). Or maybe.. it was actually other people that burnt down their houses... considering a lot of houses were made with straw roofs.. it seems like common sense to set that part on fire. There could be several explainations for this.. though no one really knows unless they were there.

wow...
how profound...
'suspected'...
and it just HAD to be god hunh???
not say, a meteorite, or a volcano or even a city wide fire???
EDIT
Chicago was pretty much destroyed in the fire of 1871 and last time i checked a volcano spewed ash in to the atmosphere. maybe, follow me here, JUST MAYBE, the ash moved from point A to point B...
and you have just proved the point, you twisted around an excerpt of a story to make it fit what you want to believe happened...
EDIT
lol...
so instead of actually having courage to admit that you MIGHT have been mistaken or that the Atheist MIGHT have been right, you took the easy way out with some 'god loves you all' crap...

1) -Suspected- city of Sodom. That still means they're not sure it was the actual city.
2) Ash = fire. Things catch fire all the time.
3) Sarcasm = I can go set a tree in the backyard on fire right now. Would that mean that my backyard could have been Sodom? Or that, for whatever reason, there was a fire?

Fire.
Claiming it proves the bible is true is like claiming pictures of New York prove spider man is real.
The story was likely written after a natural disaster to explain it, just like it explained a pillar of salt that kinda looked like a human.
It boggles the mind how naively your thoughts must be for you to think of this as any kind of evidence.
Obviously your god has no trouble killing people and interfering with free will. Except for, say, when people are about to rape and murder kids and such.

Actually no one knows if they have found Sodom and there are many competing theories. Ron Wyatt the individual who is making the claims is a controversial figure who is not an archeologist nor educated in the field. He also claims to have found the ark of the convenent and the orginal stones carved with the 10 commandments. Most people think he is a quack.

Could it be a city destroyed by fire caused by accident? There could be many causes for a devastating fire. Yes, there was a fire there, but are you saying, if there was a fire, it must be God's doing?
Here in California, we have devastating fires several times a year. If they are caused by God for sins of San Francisco, why do people in Southern California have to suffer? Doesn't God love everybody?

The same way they explain how come the moon is drifting away from us at about 2 inches per year; and Niagara falls is eroding away; and Mount St. Helens erupted and buried a forest and we now have coal deposits starting to form in less than 50 years; and there are THOUSANDS of fish fossils on Mount Everest; and there are Dinosaur tracks in Rose Glen, Texas ALONGSIDE HUMAN footprints; and there is NOT ONE SHRED of evidence in existence to support macroevolution. NOT ONE fossil of ANY transitional species of ANY KIND.
It doesn't matter. Atheists and Evolutionists are not concerned with scientific facts. They dogmatically cling to the religion of Secular Humanism in spite of the facts. If man is God, there are no moral absolutes and it doesn't matter if they kill babies, have sex with whom they please, or marry the same sex. Secular Humanism is the religion of escaping accountability to a Holy God with an absolute standard.

First, how do you know it is Sodom?
Second, wow, you mean an ancient city has a layer of ash after thousands of years? How unusual, I'm sure there aren't any other ancient cities with layers of ash in the ground. Pompeii, Herculaneum, Rome, Carthage........
