I'm concerned by what you're not saying, which is what your vet thinks. Your cat and newborn kittens should be under the care of a veterinarian having just given birth yesterday. "Most people" don't do that, and those "most people" are wrong. Just like with humans, so much can and does go wrong involving birth, which is why they need to be carefully monitored by a veterinarian. A kitten could be stuck and starting to rot. That's just one of a number of possible problems which could be causing what you are perceiving as farts. It could also be simply that with all the other physical changes she is going through, you are changing the food too quickly. Her body could be reacting badly to the new food.

It is tempting to do the "wait and see", but with certain conditions (sepsis, gangrene, other infections) the problem can escalate to life-threatening within a matter of hours. Her intestines could be twisting and trapping gas. Please call a veterinarian and describe the situation and ask if it sounds like a symptom of a potentially life-threatening problem. The vet probably does NOT want to come in for an emergency and therefore would unlikely tell you to come in "just to make an extra buck". If you have a regular vet, they shouldn't charge anything just for giving advice over the phone.

What you are describing is very common for my breeding girls. If she ate the placentas, then she will be a bit gassy. Here, I limit my moms to eating just two... unless they fight me for them. The placentas are good for her, but any sudden change in eating habits can cause a stomach upset. Go slow with the switch over to the Maxximum Kitten.

If you have an ongoing concern, talk to your vet, however I would not take newborn babes or a nursing mom to the clinic unless it was an emergency. There are simply too many diseases there.

Some foods can cause this, and milk will cause this in a lot of cats too. Bathing won't do it, so you should double check the food for either vegetable sources (carrots, apples, potatoes--they're all high sugar and can cause farting) or too high a presence of fish in the food. Some cats bodies can't handle fish and will start them farting.

Cat farts may be small, but they can stink up a room fast! That's how we found out we can't feed milk to one of our cats.
