In my view because the God of the Old Testament represented a period of instituting justice. Moses came to do several things. He first wanted to bring laws of Justice to a nation that was almost totally wild and needed to be tamed, with fear, with sacrifices, with hard sticks and stern warnings.

In the old days the nations around Israel were also fairly barbaric. If the nation did not fight hard, the chances were it would not survive at all. Thus the Israelites were made into a hardy fighting force.

Once the nation was tamed, once justice was established, the next phase of the development began, which is the state of Mercy. Besides when Jesus came, Israel was ruled by the Romans. It was counter productive at that point to teach about violence against a much superior enemy.

The Jews who did not listen to this wiser approach paid with their lives in Jerusalem and finally at the fort of Masada where the Romans wiped out the last bit of resistance.

Most of the disciples of Jesus knew what the Romans allegedly did to their own Master. They were scared. They taught a peaceful and merciful religion to apeal to the Romans, rather than challenging them.

Even the story of Jesus as it developed in Rome has a direct parallel t the story of Hercules (son of god) born to Alcmene (Earth woman, his mother) married to Zeus (god the father). This mythological concept is also not there at all in Judaism.

David is called the son of God, but the meaning was totally symbolic.

I hope this makes sense?

There is no difference. In the New Testament, God sent Jesus because like today everyone wants "to see for their own eyes" and even though in the New Testament everyone saw the miracles that Jesus did and taught all that God is about with evidence, still no one believed. Today, is worse. Telling the truth, no one believes, but tell a lie and all believe.

Because in the old testament, played a very active role in the world. He showed Himself as a pillar of fire/cloud during the Israelites wanderings in the desert, He walked openly with Adam and Eve, He spoke directly to people. A study of how this worked in the OT shows that despite physical proof and obvious miracles, the Israelites would still only remain faithful for a little while. As you read through the OT you can see that God intervenes and interacts directly less and less until Israel and Judah are conquered and enslaved by Babylon and Assyria. Then, 400 years later, He tried another way to interact with His people. He came down into the world as one of them. (at least this way people could look directly at Him and not die). Even then, He was rejected by the people once again. After His death and resurrection, God chose the final way to speak/relate to us. Through the Spirit of God, living within us. We, are now, to be image bearers of God and the world will see Him through us (kinda scary when you look at a lot of the answers "christians" leave on this site).

It also helps to think of it like this: in the OT, the Israelites where a new nation and God almost quite literally "raised" the nation as one would a child. (because, frankly, they acted like children). Now, in this day and age, we are no longer children. So there is no need to treat the church as such. Hope that helped, if you have any more questions, (or want to debate my theory) just email me.

My opinion only...so you can accept it or deny it as you wish.

I think that God did change his attitude towards us (his children) because he realized that we were not capable of being totally free of sin and that just eliminating us from the face of the earth like He did in Noah's time didn't work. I know this means that God does not know everything ahead of time...and frankly, I don't believe that He does know. If He did, that would be contrary to the free will that we were given to make our own decisions. It would also explain why He did not stop Satan (Lucifer the angel) from what he did. He didnt see it coming.

I know to some that this picture of God that I have makes him less perfect so it must be wrong but this is what I have found in my personal relationship with Him. He loves us and He understands us....but He still wants us to be as like Him as we can be. I believe Jesus was sent by God to take care of those things that we ourselves can not do. He paid a debt he did not owe because we had a debt that we could not pay.

sounds like pre and post rehab to me

god is very insecure and clingy; he also suffers from uncontrollable mood swings

you know its only a matter of time before god starts feeling unattractive and unloved again (wont stay on meds) and begins with the screaming and the threats, starts throwing things, etc

PS Poohcat- "I think that God did change his attitude towards us (his children) because he realized that we were not capable of being totally free of sin"

- so much for omnipotent and omniscient; if god were real would he need his children to make up excuses for him?

I agree totally with Fishy. There is a great deal of history covered in the Bible, and as such you see not a changing of God, but a timeless God leading a people through progressive teachings.

Because the intellectually capacity of men to understand God.
Read from...jnsr ...site:ex."

JESUS: "I created you with many resources. They are all for the life of man and his long line of descendants. Buried in your ground to its bowels, they will find these resources according to their needs, they will find use for them along the thousands of years allotted to them". In their adult age, I will withdraw this Humanity from this Earth.

It will be the last generation having acquired all the physical, intellectual and psychological maturity wanted and demanded of man by God. For at the adult age of man, it is no longer Adam that I will hold responsible, but the accomplished man of that era.

And behold here is this man to whom I left enough time to understand that he can no longer do anything without loving God, His Creator, and his neighbor as his brother. Not only he was not content having destroyed My Heritage, the gift for all the generations of Humanity, he allowed himself to abolish God's Laws, thus creating instability in this World, by instituting in their place abominable man-made laws in this permissive society, in order to kill the family, the Country, by eliminating God."
