All I can say is the best mashing potatoes are Idaho's or baking potatoes. The new potatoes are too mushy when cooked to make a smooth product. If you're not sure...you can buy prepared mashed taters at the supermarket near the dairy dept. That's the lazy, but best way to be sure of the result.

Whatever part you want to mash. I do the whole potato, including the skin (after washing thoroughly, of course), but others don't. The peel has all the vitamins and minerals--that's why I leave it on.

The unpeeled potatoe in whole. The best mashed potatoe is mashed with margarine/butter and milk. I like whipped potatoes better though. :)

Memo to Bachelors: take potato in hand. take peeler in hand. peel one unit potato. cut potato in chunks. boil potato in pot of water until soft. drain potato. MASH POTATO [using one unit/each potato masher] adding butter, milk & salt.

One or more units of potato, boiled, seasoned, mashed = the whole entire units of potato BECOME mashed potatoes. Eventually.

you take off the peal (you can leave it on if you want but I think it doesn't taste good) and then you use the rest of the potato

To peel, or not to peel? That is the question. :)

You can make them either way. I prefer them with the skins on. Better texture.
