You cant "make" anyone fall in love. Im sorry to say. If he is your mate then he might just value your friendship and might not want to take it to the next level fearing he might lose you as a friend if things go sour.
If you really care for him I would say tell him your feelings, just to get it out there. But if he doesn't respond to your advance then if you really care for him, you would respect the friendship and keep him as just your mate.

Just be yourself. Never change yourself for a gut, or hes not worth it. If he doesn't like you for who you are....................then who cares abput him?
