i know you're not supposed to lust after people, so you shouldn't watch porn, but what if you're reading about fictional characters having wild relations with each other and it goes into graphic detail?

i'm not christian but just wondering your views on it

i like to read a good romance novel.

But yes, overtly sexually graphic novels are wrong.... but i guess the key words in this sentnce are overtly... cause your thoughts and my thoughts may be two different things...

if they have to sell it behind the counter or you have to be over 18 to buy it..... then it is wrong. But a good nora roberts book.... I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

well, anything you put into your mind is echoed therefore if your read sexually explicit novels all day your mind will be filled with the like really it is more of a wasting your life issue since there is no real benefit of reading the novel other then self gratification it becomes the fact of wasting all that time that you could have used for some higher purpose how much better off would someone be reading Shakespeare it is a work that has sex violence and much more however it isn't written for a 4 year old to understand anyway just a thought

Yes, it is at least in Catholic eyes. I had to go to Catholic school for 13 years, and in my senior theology class we had an entire semester of "moral sexuality"... basically how gays such as myself are "intrinsically disordered", how it is a mortal sin if you use contraception, how women have to dress modestly because men can't control their sex drive, and (relating to your question) that it is a sin for men to look at "visual pornography" and that it is a sin for women to look at "emotional pornography". I kid you not... apparently all men look at porn and no women do, but we're so weak and dependant on emotions that we have read romance novels ceaselessly. Which is a sin.

So, yes, that is a major sin, and if you do not stop then it will corrupt your heart and soul so that you are unable to love people and enter God's kingdom.

*vomits* HA, right... no, just read it if that's what you fancy. It can't hurt anyone to lust after a fictional character, and anyway who gives a rip about so-called sin? Most of it is not actually wrong, and there is no god so whatever

Lust is a matter of the eyes, but more importantly, of the heart response. Whether you are seeing with your physical eye, or the eye of your mind, the point Jesus made in Matthew chapters 5 through 8 is that the heart is what matters.

Reading pornography is no different from viewing it. It creates a situation in the mind of temptation and so should be avoided.

The etymology of the word 'graphy', actually means to to write (from the Greek).

whether or not this would be a sin would be determined by your reaction to what you are reading. If it does not cause you to have lustful thoughts, then no, it would not be a sin. The same thing goes for what a person is wearing. If we know that the wearing of a particular piece of clothing is likely to cause a lustful reaction, then it would be sinful to wear it. I know you can't always help what someone else feels, but once aware, it would be necessary for you to avoid doing the same thing again for obvious reasons.

In the eyes of God, sin is sin. He makes no distinction as to whether any one sin is worse than another, except the unpardonable sin, which is saying that something God did was done by the devil. There is a verse in the Bible that says :" To him who knows to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin." That means, if you really think , deep inside that what you are doing is bad , then you are under conviction by God. If you continue to do the thing, even though you really know is bad , then, for you , it's a sin.

Obviously it's sinful if you're entertaining lustful thoughts. Degree is somewhat of a non-issue as Christians should not be involved in what is sinful regardless of degree.

Impure thoughts are a sin and just as bad as acting on an impulse. Mortal Sin is thinking and acting on it. Venial Sin is bad thoughts and bad deeds ( but accidental like). Remember Jimmy Carter's confession that he lusted in his heart for other women? He had to ask forgiveness for that.

Personally I think if you are reading this kind of stuff after a while, it's like lying down with dogs and getting up with fleas so to speak. If you see it enough or hear it enough or read it enough, it's bound to have some kind of influence on your thinking. I can't see how it wouldn't. That's just my personal opinion, please don't take the dog illustration wrong sweetie, it's sounded funny when I went back and read it, but I mean no harm, just my belief.

Any sort of "sexually graphic" pleasure (other than wife or husband) is a sin.

Whether it be XXX, XX, X, R or other movies including words that are graphic, and that includes

Jokes you tell or laugh at, songs, comic books, novels or dime store paper backs.
