I am a wreck. I have had my dog, Zoe since February but she doesn't get along with my other dog so we have to find someone to adopt her. I love her so, so much, but she can't stay.

All I keep thinking is that when I finally leave her with her new family, she will feel sad and abandoned. I know she'll be happy there.. but will she forget about me?
Ultimately, I hope that she would because then I wouldn't feel as bad.
I just don't want to be sitting at home, thinking, she's thinking, where am I?

Please let me know your stories/opinions..Thanks!

from my personal experience, dogs don't forget their previous owners, but they get over them in a mater of days, so you shouldn't be too sad, your dog will be happy with her new family, and if you ever visit, she will know who you are

I think it is rare that a dog cannot adjust to a new family. I have three experiences. Two went well and one did not.
I got an Old English Sheepdog, Barney, from a couple that had to move and could not keep him. It went really well. He was a great dog.
I had a friend that when her brother died of cancer she got the dog. She already had to Labs and couldn't keep her. So I took in the Irish Wolfhound/Great Dane mix, Luna, she was also a great dog.
The only sad experience was with a beautiful, big, red, Irish Sitter. Again the people were moving and could not keep the dog. The dog had been hit by a car and had back problems, but they said she was OK. I had her for two weeks and she would not get off her bed. I returned her to her previous owners. They found a way to keep her. I talked to them later and they said she was fine. I gave her all the attention that I gave my other two dogs but she just would not move. The only conclusion I could come to was she missed her first family.

thats so sad u have to give up ur dog!
well i know that most dogs do kind of remember their owners, but if they're happy they move on. my friend just got a 4 year old german shephard from another family b/c they're moving. at first the poor dog was a lil mopey but by the end of the week she was soo happy and playful. I've never seen such a playful dog! her tail is constantly wagging and she really is a very expressive dog.
so i hope u all the best wid ur dog.
Bye :D

I work with a humane society and we adopt out dogs all the time. The dog may be a little confused at first, but dogs have a natural ability to adjust quickly to being part of a new pack or household. It will take a little time, but your dog should adjust just fine.

i guess it all depends on the dog. I have a boxer who is so sookie that when i did take him somewhere for one week he was sadened.
Now the first time i did this with someone else and she had 2 dogs he forgot all about me. He just wanted to play play play.
I would suggest the new owners SPOIl the dog take it out everynight, treats, runs, toys , pets stores just lots of attention so that maybe the pup will feel at ease.

Dogs usually grieve their old owner when they are first in the new home. At this point, Zoe will recognize your aunt and greet her as a dear friend. She'll be happy to see her, but after 5 months, she's your dog and she'd rather come home with you.

She will miss you for a while, but if her new owners treat her well, she will adapt quickly, and while she may not literally forget about you, she won't sit around depressed, thinking about you and missing you. Dogs have memories, but not as long and detailed as humans.

Well, if you treated her like one of your children she probable does miss you, but if the other family does the same then she might not miss you. It all depends.

Dogs do not have human feelings and emotions. You are giving them to her and think that she has them. She will be fine in a couple of weeks after she gets used to her new pack. Hope I have helped.
