Go to the Royal Air Force website and use one of the contact e-mails to pose the question. If there is such a program, you will be able to get correct information from someone with the RAF.

I don't know how it works over there but in our city working dogs are acquired when they are puppies and live with their handlers - when the dog retires (when they are around 7) the handler can purchase the dog for one dollar.
Because of the specialized training these dogs go through it makes them quite valuable. (I think the average K-9 police officer is worth around $50,000 - hummm ... wonder what the human officers are worth. ;)
Maybe try sending them a letter asking if it would be possible to adopt a retired RAF dog - but I wouldn't hold my breath for a yes answer.

You can try looking up the RAFA association , i think they have a website , it is an organisation run by former RAF personnel , if they can help you they will , but i don't think that after the training they receive they will not be use for anything else as they will only respond to their master who has trained and been with them since they were 6 wks old puppies .
www.rafa.org.uk is the website

I am not sure how it works in the UK, but here, for a long time, you could not do it due to the training the dogs had. I am not positive if that is still the case, but, there has to be a training center that you can contact and a kennel master you can speak to who will be able to give you better advice then anyone here. Good luck.

Their handlers usually keep them upon retirement as they are great teachers to new dogs. Saying that, you definetely wouldn,t want an ex forces guard dog. Very dangerous animal (even in the right hands)

I really don't know luv. Maybe go to the gates of your local RAF (they probably won't let u much further than that without a pass!) and ask them. That's a really kind thing to do. Good luck xx

I'm not sure but if you contact Southwark Adoption Services in London, they have loads of kids over seven who are looking for a home.

Not sure you would be able to adopt one, as they are highly trained they might not make good pets.

I believe that because of the nature of their training they are not allowed to be rehomed to domestic homes.
