I've had an automatic, and I regret it. A car like this can only be fully enjoyed if it has a manual tranny.

The problem with an overpowered muscle car these days is that you rarely get to open it up and drive it like it's built to be driven. With a stick, you get alot more enjoyment out of a sports car. Down-shifting to pass people, hearing the roar of an engine, smoking the tires on a burn-out, all very good fun for a 5.0. As for the clutch burning out....don't worry about. I've never lost a clutch in a manual transmission. Just shift properly and you manual tranny with give you less problems and expense than an automatic.

The automatic 5.0 Mustangs are much slower than the manual operated ones. If I had it to do all over again I'd have looked harder to find a stick.

Other than the obvious manual tranny and auto tranny, the auto tranny cars had a different tune in the computer which slowed them down some as well as the AOD tranny of the era wasn't a very good performance tranny. The converter partially locked in 2nd gear and was fully locked in 3rd and OD. The newer 4R70W trannys are much better.
