My version of the Bible verse says "He will be called Immanuel."
Subtle difference. Immanuel in Hebrew means "God among us."
Jesus was a common name among these people, Immanuel is more like a title.

because...the name Immanuel has this definition-“Immanuel.” Heb., `Im·ma´nu ´El, meaning “With Us Is God”; Gr., Em·ma·nou·el´; Vgc(Lat.), Em·ma´nu·el. See Mt 1:23.
As the fact that Jesus, as the son of God, had his life tranferred to human form via the vessel of Mary, and the fact that he was perfectly obedient to his father the name Emmanuel is an accurate description of who Jesus was, and what he stood for.
Do you ever wonder why other people of fame have been given names which are not their real name?

The name means God is with us, and the Christians in their ignorance took everything literally and believed it meant that Jesus is God.

it doesn't say He was to be named that, it says He was to be called that, and a lot of other things: wonderful, councillor (or maybe counselor*?*), etc, etc.
Immanuel means ''God with us.''

It says that he would be called that, not named that. The word means messiah, savior, rescuer etc.
