Very good question, got a star for it......The answer for me is that it depends on what I'm baking (or roasting) in the oven.....for brownies, say, I put the 13X9 Pyrex in the oven lengthwise, as I like both moist (which will be toward to front of the Pyrex) and the drier ones that will be baked toward the rear of the dish......due to the fact that the rear upper portion of the oven is the hottest area. If I'm say cooking a casserole or oven bake smothered pork chops (hmmmmm., sounds good for dinner tonight!) I put the dish in width-wise.......but when it gets down to brass tacks, as long as the food gets baked/roasted to your liking, it guess that it really doesn't matter.....Enjoy!!

If it is just one baking dish I put sideways. If two are baking then I place them longways.

I think it does better long ways but, if you have trouble with it cooking uneven then split the time in half. So if it needs to be in the oven for 20 minutes put it in for 10 on each side. Hope that helps!!

Depends on what you're baking. For bread or pizza, a pizza stone or quarry tiles For most casseroles, stoneware, enameled cast iron would be my choice Heavier is generally better for more even heat distribution. Those thin aluminum baking pans are prone to burning your food moreso than a heavier pan.

Sideways is best but sometimes ovens don't bake evenly and you have to turn dishes halfway thru cooking-always check.

doesnt matter if u put it in side ways u probobly are putting something right next to it and if u r cooking long ways u probobly are just cooking that one thing but i usually put it in long ways because i dont really like putting 2 things in the oven at once ?

Longways for even baking.

I'd put it in with the short sides to the side and the long sides to the front and back..
