Muslims (and Islam) say Jesus was a prophet but they reject all His teachings ....that is hypocrisy.
They reject Christ's diety;
they deny his claim to be the Son of God;
they deny his death on the cross...
they deny His resurrection..
They deny Jesus is the Christ/ Messiah...
In fact, the Quran says : "Allah has no son".
Need I say more...?
Don't be deceived. The Islamic god is totally different than the God of Jesus Christ.
The Bible calls Muhammed and those like him false prophets:
"Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is anti-Christ, that denies the Father and the Son. He that denies the Son, the same has not the Father." (I John 2:22)

Im very pleased to see people who actually want to learn about Islam not just believe All what they see on t.v,
Ok Islam is not a new religion, but the same truth that God revealed through all His prophets to every people. For a fifth of the world's population, Islam is both a religion and a complete way of life. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith.
Muslims believe in One, Unique, Incomparable God; in the Angels created by Him; in the prophets through whom His revelations were brought to mankind; in the Day of Judgement and individual accountability for actions; in God's complete authority over human destiny and in life after death. Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist, and Jesus, peace be upon them. But God's final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through Gabriel.
The five Pillars of Islam are:
1) Faith: There is no god worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is His messenger
2) Prayer: Salat is the name for the obligatory prayers which are performed five times a day, and are a direct link between the worshipper and God.
3) The zakat: One of the most important principles of Islam is that all things belong to God, and that wealth is therefore held by human beings in trust.
4) the fast: Every year in the month of Ramadan, all Muslims fast from first light until sundown, abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations.
5) Pilmirage (HAJJ): The annual pilgrimage to Makkah - the Hajj - is an obligation only for those who are physically and financially able to perform it.
I really hope i helped
peace

if you want to learn what people say and do in the mainstream 'religion' then read any of the sites provided by answerers above.
If you want to know what GOD has to say, read Qur'an and this site::
http://www.free-minds.org/articles/gods_system/aasystem.htm
it is based on belief in God, and God alone, and what His holy book is really all about, not what rituals and practices people have used for over a thousand years. Many of 'traditional' islamic practices do not come from the very book they claim to base their faith on, and in fact, go against God's word in Qur'an. Please Educate yourself fully before deciding what to follow.
2:186 "And if my servant asks you about me, behold, I am near. I respond to those who call on me, so that they might follow the right way"

There is only one God and Mohammad is his messenger. Allah (Arabic for God) isn't any different than God that others believes in. Muslims try to make other people understand that Allah is just another word for God and He is the only God .
Muslims pray five times a day and don't eat pork, drink alcohol, or have relations with anyone outside of marriage with the opposite gender.
On Friday, Muslim men are obligated to go to the mosq and pray Jumha.
There are five pillars in Islam.
1. The belief in the oneness of God
2. Prayer of five times a day
3. Giving money to the poor (Zakat)
4. Self-purification
5. The pilgrimage to Mecca for those who are able
If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help. i don't allows email, but if you post them on yahoo answers, I'll check them out and answer them for you.

the basis of Islam is that you love the all mighty god and never do any wrong doings. and that you believe in other religions. Try visiting amr Khalid web site and read the translated version of the Holy Quraan.
Islam means peace,

I was born in the USA.
I am of Swedish decent.
College educated.
Served two tours for my country in Vietnam.
Love my country dearly.
Am a peaceful soul.
62 years of age.
I am not one to convert anyone to anything.
This is what I have to say:
Contrary to what the world is saying and exhibiting, this is the true meaning of Islam:
Islam is equality, peacefulness and unity---that Islam is inner patience, contentment, trust in Allah and praise of Allah.
This is what I have seen and known to be the "Truth", having been in Islam for thirty years.
Let your inner heart be the judge, and decide for yourself!
