I don't have any tattoos.. I've been thinking about it alot, and I want to get one. The only problem is, I have no idea what to get.. Does anyone have any suggestions on something small and cute for a first timer?

If you don't know what to get, you shouldn't get one. It's your body and it will be on your FOREVER. If you let someone pick for you, I can almost guarantee you'll end up regretting it. Figure out what means a lot to you. For example, say you and your father always went out to get an icecream cone every sunday. You could get an icecream cone somewhere.

It has to be something that means a lot to you. Tattoos are fashionable now, and people will like it, but will you? Will you still be happy with that butterfly tattoo someone suggested on yahoo answers when you're 70? Tattoos that mean something to you are the ones you'll not question when you're older.

If I were you, I'd take something that means a lot to you and get that. I got a leprechaun tattoo on my right shoulder blade last year. I got it because I'm 25% Irish and leprechauns are associated with being Irish. I have been thinking about getting another one for a while. I am going to get the treble and bass clefs on my ankle because I love music. I would get something that means a lot to you now, and that you would love several years down the road, not something that is fashionable, because it would cost a lot of money to get it removed or covered up. Do something you like like music, fantasy things, or something that you like. The right idea will hit you without realizing it. I've heard that the right tattoo finds you. Good luck.

It depends on your feeling about tattoos, it sounds as though you just want a fashion accessory so go with something you like that is understated and not too outrageous. Others feel a tattoo should have meaning and only get ones that represent something to them or to remember someone/thing.

At the very least I think your tattoo should be personal to you so just get something you think is cute.

I think the only tattoo that looks really nice is:

a blank space (not the words but simply zip, nada, nothing).

I like what someone ^ said. How will you feel about your tattoo(s) when you are in your 70s?

I wanted a teensy frog, maybe an inch, on my ankle, but DH and our grown sons freaked out, so now I have a frog on a crown in my mouth (it's off to the side, but it shows when I want to show it to someone). I will be very happy with my frog in my 70's, which are not far away. (Eeek!)

Get something that means something to YOU. I have 4 individual tattoos. One I created, another is a special time, and the other 2 are symbols that define my life.

I agree that it depends on what speaks to your personality. Look at BME (body mod) websites or go to tattoo shops and check the artwork and see if anything grabs you. I have two tats on my left ankle, a strawberry and pair of cherries; a design I created on my right bicep; and a star on my left hip. So what if I sag when I age; for several decades, they'll look nice.

If you work in a more conservative field, make sure they can be easily covered by clothing.

Get something that you like, will stand the test of time, and keep it simple. You may like something now, but will hate it in 5 years. Recommend doing black (no color) because it is easier to remove (laser) if you end up hating it. My first tat was the Godsmack symbol in between my shoulder blades because I like the group. However, if in the future I don't like them, it looks like a sun. Also, put it somewhere that won't be affected by age. My back will not change, but if you do your tummy, pregnancy or change in weight will stretch it out.

Pick something that really means something to you. My first tattoo was my biggest. On my right shoulder blade, a Pegasus. I have always loved mythological beings.

i agree with john and rose. spend a bit of time and thought on something thats important to you, or means something. even if it takes a few more months to find decide on something special, have something that other people don't. make it personal, you've got to live with it!
