If I understand it correctly, the Taliban was the group of Islamic fundamentalists who, like a political party or a political movement, took control of the government of Afghanistan. Al Qaeda is an international terrorist organization, it seems to be headquartered wherever bin Laden is and that for now appears to be in Pakistan. The Taliban apparently gave Al Qaeda permission to set up in Afghanistan to prepare for the 9-11 attacks.

I am not a Muslim scholar by any means, but it seems that the two main sects of Islam are Shi'ites and Sunnis, and that has to do with following the teachings of one of Muhammad's sons long, long ago. Al Qaeda is almost entirely Sunnis, who are our "friends" in Saudi Arabia, while Shi'ites seem to be mainly in Iran--also no friends to the US, but culturally apparently more tolerant and liberated than their Sunni counterparts. It appears that in deposing Saddam Hussein the US has delivered Iraq and its oil wealth into the hands of Iran. Sunni fighters from Saudi Arabia are now battling against US forces in Iraq, or the former Iraq.

i'm noexpert yet i will attempt. Al=Quaeda is a collection that desires to eliminate non-muslim lifestyle and is waiting to wreck all western faith and lifestyle. The Taliban exchange right into a collection that have confidence contained in the oldest, least-developed variety of Islam. They style of set up camp in afghanistan while the Russians left, those 2 communities have confidence alot of a similar issues, the Taliban is bodily placed contained in the Afghanistan section, Al-Quaeda mutates everywhere they are in a position to, often they get camps and preparation factors in worldwide places thatare sympathetic to Al-Quaeda's aims
