When you take a serious look, all religion is fear based and about using the fear of eternal punishment versus eternal reward as a means of controlling the masses.
the Roman Catholic (empire) Church just recently decided that newborns no longer have to go to purgatory, that they are now permitted into heaven.
Interesting how men have control over the rules of heaven.

I see we have the usual gallery of mockers and scoffers...
Actually, they are the proof of the fact that we all are born with the "original sin". The result of that sin is that we are all born separated from God. All of our religions and philosophies are our attempts to reconnect with God. Being an agnostic and a mystic for many years, I have followed several different paths. I have found, as have millions of other people over thousands of years, that the exclusive claim of Jesus Christ... that He is the way, the truth, and the life.... and that no one can come to God except through Him... to be the absolute truth. There IS a living God! Come and see for yourself.
As for the innocent babies, that is entirely up to the mercy and grace of God, who desires that no one will perish... just as it is for us. There is nothing we can do to earn or deserve to be forgiven, except to repent... to ask for forgiveness from the love and sorrow in our hearts.

Religions from the Middle East are rather extremist. Original Sin, fearing your own god, Eternal Damnation, the Endtimes, a celibate executed god, the wearing of the symbol of His execution, Absolutist theology (all religions are fake except for mine it's the Absolute Truth), and on and on. I think it's a death cult. Most people don't distance themselves from what they were raised believing enough to really give it a good look. They just do what mom and dad raised them to do.

Much of the concepts concerning "original sin" come from the second half of Romans chapter 5. For a study guide see http://www.bcbsr.com/books/rom5b.html

...who has been teaching you....?
Baptism has nothing to do with Salvation... The "thief on the cross" with Yeshua (you know him by His Greek Name, Jesus) told the "thief" on the cross, that today he would be with Him in Paradise... Do you think that, "that thief" was Baptized...? Read the Scriptures.
Salvation comes from God...it is His "gift" to us... the "babe" at birth is quite well protected (even in death); it is only thru Spiritual ignorance and refusal to accept God at His Word that places "us" in jeopardy of Judgment... that's why Baptism is an out-word sign...a decision made by the individual to accept God at His Word... Not the foolish "sprinkling" of water on infants that some "religions" find comforted with...(there is no such Scripture proclaiming it)... (Yeshua's mother and earthly father "presented Him" to the Church and were charged with His proper spiritual growth... it was John who Baptized Him...at His request)... Read the Scriptures...
You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free....

No, I believe that a baby can not understand that Jesus died for our sins, so they will go to heaven. It is only when we understand what Jesus did that God begins to hold us accountable for our actions.

We are all imperfect so i guess that gives us original sin
As far as baby's going to hell we all go to hell
Hell is the Grave and the dead are conscience of nothing.
The good news is we are assured of Resurrection.
If your church teaches you or your loved ones go to hell to be tormented find a church that teaches the bible.
And your right it is fear based to scare the weak minded to their church so the can suck money from them

We are born with a messed up spirit.
Adam messed his up and passed it down to us.
GOTTA' get that thing RECREATED.
GOTTA' get Saved.
(only your spirit is Recreated when you are Saved, not your Soul or Body)
Dit================to! (means Rapture Ready)
