"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world (universe) so far as our science can reveal it." ~ Albert Einstein

When are non-atheists ever going to get what the real definition is?! An atheist is someone *without belief* - period! It does not mean that we deny the possibility that deities might somehow exist; all it means is that the idea seems absolutely absurd to us.

A lot of these answers make the unspoken assumption that calling someone an atheist is a bad thing, when in fact it implies that the person in question is more sensible than most!

Einstein had no actual god-beliefs, so he was by definition an atheist - as are agnostics, who just don't want to admit it to themselves. Albert would talk about "god" in a metaphorical sense, because that's what people did back then.

It doesn't matter anyway when it comes to his scientific contributions. Science by definition says nothing about anthing supernatural. Some scientists still manage to be religious in the face of all evidence to the contrary, but when they do science their religion is nowhere in sight.

Einstein was more of an agnostic than an atheist, but he was certainly never a Christian. He was born as a Jew. Einstein did not believe in a personal god.

If I said what I feel really about "Rev Albert Einstein" I would probably be reported, so I will refrain from doing so.

Einstein was not an atheist, as I am... but I use his pic...

It's all public domain... *sigh* It's really more about liking Einstein and disliking the reverend...

Along with his other delusions, he's under the impression that he's wise.

In his private letters Einstien often claimed belief in God, he railed and was angry with Him but you have to believe in something to be angry with it. lol
