I was quite cheeky with my invitations, I ordered a sample of the internet and I thought they were gorgeous, I scanned the picture onto my computer and printed onto my own ivory cards and they looked identical, If i had of ordered them off the internet they would of cost me roughly 200 pounds (sorry I have no pound sign on my pc) and all they cost me to do myself was 30 pounds, I did my own inserts aswell and they look fab, I can email you the picture if you like, just let me know

Making them is cheaper and most sites will sell you a "kit" of supplies from them, like you pick on invitation they offer and they will send you the supplies to assemble them. Those are great for brides who want to save a little money but aren't very talented at "designing" things or don't want to.
Making them can also take alot of time, especially if you want something elaborate like a petal fold invite or a pocket. It's certainly not hard, just time consuming.
I don't have alot of money in my budget but I have plenty of time so I am making mine. I'm also an art major/former graphic designer so I know my guests are expecting something really over the top when it comes to the stationary.
On thing I will say is no matter what it's worth it to let Kinko's cut the paper for you. They can get it perfectly straight and doesn't charge much. They had to cut my papers in half since I had two invites per page. I think they charged like 10 bucks to do all 150 of them. I couldn't have cut them all in 10 hours so it was completely worth it to me.

If you have any skill at design, I think making them yourself is not only a great money saver, but far more personal.
If you're not skilled at design, though, then it might be better to buy them. That's what I did because I'm not much of an artist and didn't have a computer where I could print them up at the time. Besides, I was doing a lot of other things myself including making the lace for my gown! I figured I could buy one or two things at market price.
But I still looked for a good bargain.

Buy them! Making them is nice, but only if you are creative and it will look good. THere are so many websites that offer cheap invitations, there is no need to 'save money' and make them. Trust me, its faster, easier, and worth spending like, $50 dollars more. Invitationsbydawn is a good website. Thats where I got mine. They were $101 for 100 invitations.

im getting married next year and my 10 year old son is making all mine.
I think home made ones are better, as they show how you think about that person you are inviting. It makes them feel special. That's if you have enough time, as planning a wedding is stressful as it is.
If not enough time then I would consider buying or have you tried various printing firms as they can do them also.
There are also plenty of web sites that you can order them on

If you have the time and think you would enjoy it, make them! It can eb a fun thing to do! Get your bridemaids together or sit down with some family and have a good time of it!
If it doesn't sound like a fun idea, go with purchasing them. it'll cost mroe, but you should enjoy preparing for your wedding, and if that means someone else does that type of work, gof or it.

I bought ours at Target and they matched with everything else, we got the two hearts intertwined together type "theme" but our thing is just old fashioned Love, and my MOH helped us make them out and we put our own little verse on them, they came out beautiful for only about $30, well maybe not as beautiful as professionals can make them, but they were beautiful to us and that's all that matters. Good Luck : )

I've bought mine, don't reckon we'd have the time and definitely not the patience to make them ourselves.
If you decide to buy them, look around a lot first before making your choice on which ones you want.
Best of luck

It depends on your budget and how "crafty" you are, my mum made my invites and they were beautiful, they took her a long time to make though so if you are short on time it may be better to buy them ready made.

If you have some card making skill then I think making them yourself would be a lovely touch...just as long as you don't have to make 100's of them!
Making them yourself is not a cheap option though ...:)
