First, pay off all your old debts, and make sure that whoever you owed money to agrees that you're paid off. If there's a discrepancy between what they think you owe and what you think you owe, you should resolve it if possible before trying to get other credit.
Next, get a secured credit card from your own bank. Read the fine print to see what interest they're charging you and what other gotchas the account has.
Use your card but keep it under its limit. Pay your bills on time, no exceptions. After a few months of this, ask to have the status changed from secured to unsecured.
I suggest you don't even consider the banks that advertise unsecured accounts to high-risk players. If you do consider them, look at the fine print very carefully. The APR and fees might shock you. I just heard of a company that has a 99.25% APR for such accounts!

I'm not sure if you mean that you already have debt or you don't have any credit history. I got a Discover card when I had no credit history. Or you could try getting a prepaid credit card, which you put money in but builds up your credit score without the risk to the credit company.

i think you will probably find there isn't one. credit card companies like most financial organisations need to be sure that you will at least be able to make the minimum payments on any borrowing you incur. they will generally do this by means of a credit check on you. you can check your credit status on-line by visiting creditexpert.co.uk if you dont have a good credit rating ii can't see any company assuring you a credit card.

Banks offer secured credit cards you deposit a few hundred in a bank account and they give you a card with that limit. They have high fees so you may have to give them most of your limit in fees but in a few months if you pay on time they might offer you an unsecured card.

orchard bank has several options. I know, I used them to get restarted. And First Premier bank as well. They will give a card to just about anyone! Capital One is a no-no and really just barely a step up from the two I recommend, meaning not so easy to get.

I can safely say that no credit card company will give you a card without a serious credit check.
