It maybe from a cold, allergies, dry air, or any one of several blood disorders. If it only happens occasionally and lasts less than 45 minutes and he does not soak a face towel then it is most likely not a blood disorder - this is why my daughters have nose bleeds. Take him to his doctor so he/she can determine if there are allergies or dry membranes causing the problem.

I had this same problem when I was a kid. I learned that I was anemic, and had to take medicine for that. The blood was too thin to clot properly, and the medicine took care of that.
Also, dry air will cause the nose to bleed. Remember the old vaporizers, that you would set up in a room when you had a cold? That worked for me. Now, if you cannot get one of those try a humidifier.
Good luck, and I hope this helps.

You don't say how old he is....nose bleeds can be common in children, especially if he's in dry air a great deal. Before going crazy, try putting a humidifier in his room at night, and see if that helps.
If this is going on during the days AND nights, I would have him seen by a doctor ASAP! Good luck!

That's pretty common in children.
There is a medical procedure called cauterization that can stop it for good.
My younger brother had that problem a lot. My mother finally decided to take him to the doctor and have it cauterized. The doctor said "the next time it happens, make an appointment." It's funny, but he never had another episode again, and didn't have to get the procedure.
That was a long time ago, so doctors might have other ways to treat now it that I don't know about.

That used to happen to me when I was a kid. It could be the air is too dry. Try using a cool mist humidifier. He could also be picking his nose in his sleep.
