I've always wondered when I see a new arts and crafts store of a particular type of restuarant go up what made then choose THAT store and why a different one? Is there a good reson for putting it in this location? What is the criteria, if there is any? How long does it take to decide? Are there people that hold this position in determining where it goes?

Some are looking at foot traffic or age of locals. Different businesses have different customers. A craft store may do best with young and old people since most workers don't have much time for crafts. If they have many young people they may stock more scrap booking or children's crafts but with more retired people more woodworking or yarn supplies. If I was opening a business like daycare I would find a location with lots of young families in a higher income area so less homemakers offering daycare to compete with.

Any good business enterprise will consider demographics first. What market am I trying to reach? How much saturation is already in this area? Am I offering something different enough to appeal to the buyers?

Yes, any good business enterprise will have its marketing staff checking out expansion areas.
