A paramedic is trained for emergency, on-site care such as crash sites. They know how to patch a person up for transport. They are NOT doctors.
Doctors are the ones you find in hospitals to care for the patients. They also can specialize in the field such as pediatrics, gastrology, etc.

Are Paramedics Doctors

Comparing a paramedic to a doctor is like comparing apples to oranges...they aren't even in the same category, really.

A paramedic is a highly qualified medical technician trained to provide life saving emergency medical care. In short, we are experts at a very narrow slice of medicine. Most paramedics have year long certificates in their field, although the trend is going towards making an associate's the minimum educational requirement. It's not uncommon for a paramedic to have a bachelor's in the field.

A doctor is a professional who's gone through 10+ years of education to be able to take care of people. Most doctors choose to focus on a particular aspect of medicine, which can be anything from emergency medicine (to be an ER doc), or family medicine (the doc you see for your physicals and such) or a very particular specialty such as dermatology or ears/nose/throat.

A paramedic works under the orders (either written protocols or verbal orders) of an ER doctor. They are an extension of that doctor's medical license. If a paramedic screws up, more often than not it will be the doctor that also suffers, because he's partly responsible for making sure those paramedics know their stuff.

Paramedics are very good at what they do, but they are not doctors. We can definitely stabilize your fracture, and give you medications to help your asthma attack, but we can't diagnose problems. That's what a doctor is for :)

EMT's provide basic life-saving and necessary emergency treatment in order to stabilize a patient to a hospital. They cannot open a practice to treat patients medically or write scripts as doctors can. Paramedics make less money, and often their lives are on the line in certain areas of the country that are gang and crime-laden.

a parmedic is one of those guys who take care of people inside the ambulance, especially when emergency care is needed right @ the accident side and a doctor is always @ the hospital or clinic whether they just take care of sick people or with people who r in intensive care or the emergency room.
