As i explored through yahoo answers it's like a lot of people are loosing faith in God. Along time ago people would fight for their boleifs and know it's like everyone lost there morals. I don't think war is just, but i'm just using it as an example of what lengths people would go to for the dignity of bringing honour to their boleif. God is love and does not approve of war, so i'm letting you know i'm not saying he's into that stuff. Please tell me why this world is changing so much. Everyone is somwhat loosing or disrespecting their own faith by being unfaithful in relationships, stealing for no good cause, not praying, and treating others like dirt even though we are no longer at war. What is going on?

What has happened is that the believers are forced to make a leap of faith over and over and over, as mounting evidence against creationism is painted into a smaller and smaller corner.

200 years ago, we knew nothing of geology, carbon 14 dating, comparative anatomy, DNA, nor had Darwin yet made the connections of evolution. The old folk lore that BAM a sky daddy make it all, and that the earth is the center of the universe, suddenly is indeed the fairy tale it always was...

Superstition is still alive and well in countries where the people are not educated.... they still don't know even what causes a cold, and have no idea how germs make disease. As well, when people think of a god that is suppose to be good, and loving, and then people think, "Well, if he didn't answer the prayers of 11 million people in the Holocaust, where in the hell was the dude?", why on earth would my prayer be important....?" "faith" then, becomes really silly, and childish....

And since science can now answer what makes an eclipse, a flood, plague, and birth defects, educated people don't say that " It's god's will".

Morality has nothing to do with religion... indeed if one is going to get one's morality from the bible, we are all in deep dooodooo.. Read Numbers, Judges, for real murder.....

First of all you are accepting the inaccurate assumption that morals and ethics are the result of religion. They are not. Societal norms or morals were around long before any organized religions. They were the rules that the members of a society created and lived by in order to maintain discipline and order within the culture. Somewhere along the line religions adopted these and mistakenly made many believe they created them.

Secondly, is the world really any more violent than what it has been? Humans are aggressive by our nature. Just look over our past history and it is easy to see this fact. What does seem a little more predominate is the reduced value of life all around. To me religion is a major culprit in this because it is so easy to lessen the value of a human life if it doesn't belong to the same religion as you or believe as you do. If you de-humanize a person it is easier to kill them.

Yes, the lovely lengths that a stubborn blinded person would go to in order to prove that what his brain-washers have taught him is good. It's very "moral" to try and force your beliefs on people - just as moral as rape is, I daresay. Yes, "God is love" only AFTER the non-believers have been unmercifully beaten up and killed - collateral damage for the believers' welfare, right?

You speak of "not praying" as if it were some very shameful disgusting act. And it seems to me that "treating others like dirt" is okay to you, as long as you are officially at war with them. Like some paperwork gives you the right to push someone down the stairs and closes the eyes of your so-called-God when it comes to balancing your sins and good deeds.

This question just proves that the truly immoral one is YOU. Simple things such as names and religion and being at war with somebody should not even MAKE YOU THINK you have the right to push them around... But you ask what's wrong with society. The problem is that there are people like you still at large!!! Learn to accept those different from you and you'll see that things aren't as black as you paint them.

As the base of human knowledge and technology expands, the domain of God is shrinking[God,as we know of through our religions or faiths or whatever].In this transition, many ethics, values and social norms would not only be questioned but also challenged and may even be disregarded.A sociologist would consider such changes as historically quite normal, being a transitory process. What is going on?Societies are redefining morality, ethics and other norms and in some cases have found acceptable levels and in most are still experimenting or searching.Transitions are always uncertain and quite painful but the inbuilt sense of humans for survival and progress shall save us from many extremes.Take heart and stay optimistic.

i don't think all of this is going on here or that you can make this assumption about r&s...

you sound like YOU are losing faith. i see a lot of great answers by awesome Christians all the time. who cares about the mean-spirited, angry or crazy chatter here? God is not diminished by a few crybabies...

and to be honest? the atheists are as passionate as the Christians, which speaks volumes...why so worked up over something that "doesn't exist"? i believe that atheists are Christians waiting to happen...remember the story of saul of tarsus?

My standard answer...Religious folk consistently purport piety and push tiresome notions to imply that atheists live lives bereft of morals and guidance. They often make outrageous claims that murderous leaders such as Stalin and Hitler were atheist when they could not have been because they believed themselves to be omnipotent gods, welcoming the worship and giving or taking of life which went with it.
Atheist lifestyle is resultant from ingenuity, logic and wisdom developed over eons. Atheists neither need nor desire a god’s confirmation and forgiveness, but simply get on with their lives to maintain civil society. Atheists commit acts based on their individual merits instead of bowing to overreaching rationale of doctrinal demands tied to threat of eternal damnation. Capable human beings are ultimately responsible for their own actions.
The concept of puppeteer gods or demons denies that we have only to answer to ourselves, the law and those we care about. Religion is a scapegoat lifestyle. Unfortunately there will always be some who, if not stopped, have the potential to damage society in the name of their god. That is why there are societal laws.

Don't confuse faith in god and morality. The two are NOT THE SAME!!!

You can have morals even if you don't believe in god. There are more than enough examples of people of faith doing terrible things.

I am an atheist. I am 63 years old. I have been married to the same woman for 40 years. We have five children. I don't steal and I treat others as I would have them treat me. I went to war in the service of my country. I am one of the "Everyone's" of whom you speak. The woods are full of us. That is what is going on, in my opinion.

the "long time ago" you refer to saw people using god to justify bigotry, intolerance, cruelty and murder of non-christians. If anything, people are becoming more moral.

I myself do not accept the megalomaniac-god of the bible, but do have an appreciation for the divinity of the universe.
