I say I'm atheist. Some argue and some just look horrified.

I'm not a non-believer, however, I'm a non-literalist and I pretty much expand on what's on the site I maintain. The idea of a literal Bible is indefensible. As anyone who is going to "preach religion" to you is probably a literalist (you can have a conversation with some intelligence with those of us from mainstream churches) then you might find it effective too. Knowing how to actually debate is useful as well of course. Things like never allowing them to slip around difficulties -- but I stress that on the site. The stuff you probably want is on the three pages under the heading Bible on the left hand menu.

Have a good day.

Kind thoughts,

Reyn

I'm not saying that I'm a non-believer. For the past decades, I have been collecting ancient scriptures and have been doing research while all Christians I know, the source of their knowledge is only the bible which is itself just a compilation, so all I did was ask them questions which they don't know how to answer, but one time I lost a childhood friend he's a pastor and got irritated by that.

I kindly tell them that I respect they views and their opinion, but that I do not believe as they do and tell them that I would like for them to stop preaching to me. Some will continue to try to "save" me, but many will either stop, or actually get interested and want to discuss the difference of our opinions. I actually had a Jehovah's Witness visit my home 3 or 4 times who would come by and we would discuss my views and compare them to what she was teaching. I love meeting the openminded Christians, because you can have an intelligent conversation about difference of opinion, and they aren't trying to convert you and actually respect your views.

If I have the time, I'll argue with them. I went to catholic schools so I know enough so I have comebacks to what they say. Most of them are just blind sheep and dont really know anything, and they fold rather fast. I'm all for religion, but keep yours to yourself.

I say something like: " OK... let me see if I've got this straight... you believe that a cosmic Jewish zombie, who is his own father, can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced, by a talking snake with legs, to eat from a magical tree... (etc.)... and you think that there is something horribly wrong with those of us who ARE NOT stupid and gullible enough to believe such outrageously ridiculous codswallop."

OK... here's what you should do. First thing in the morning, please get in contact with your local mental health professionals. Oh... and be sure to tell them that it's an emergency."

After that, they usually tell me that I'm going to hell. That's when I laugh at them.

I'm not a non believer but when a person of a different belief tries to argue or convince me I fin d something of value in what they say and comment"those are some words of wisdom" and move on Or it sounds like you really know your stuff or I can see how passionate you are about your beliefs
try it you'll like it

Stacie, I am a "believer" but would like to answer your question. First of all, if someone "preaches religion" to you, thy care enough to tell you what they believe to be truth. If you would like them not to "preach" to you, what you can say to them is, you would like to hear about Jesus, just not vocally. Tell them you would rather see the love of Christ.

If you don't want religion preached to you then why do you all come to this R&S site? It seems rediculous to me. You are always whining about the Christians preaching to you. This is a RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY site. Not a NON BELIEVER SITE. What do you expect? Sheesh.

It must be my personality or the way I treat people, because they all assume I'm christian unless I tell them otherwise. My husband and I have a business selling, amont other things, metaphysical supplies. We've had a few christians wander in and when they see the incense, oils, spellbooks, pentacles, etc. they pretty much freak out and run screaming out the door. Makes my day every time.
