Whether Bush made a mistake about Iraq would depend on his motive. If his object were to overthrow and kill Saddam, then he has succeeded and he did not make a mistake.
It his motive were to stop weapons of mass destruction, then he made a mistake; there were no such weapons.
If he wanted to deter terrorism, he made a mistake. Iraq was not a hotbed of terrorism before the invasion. Since the invasion, it appears that more terrorists are operating from Iraq.
Was the war good for the US? Absolutely not. We have lost the respect of most of the world. We have spent billions (perhaps trillions) with little to show for it. 3500 US soldiers have died and many thousands more injured or maimed for life. Reportedly, hundreds of thousands of iraqis have died.
Most importantly, it is mistake to stay in Iraq because there is no war between the US and Iraq; only a civil war. If we're assisting in a civil war, why aren't we getting some money from oil rich Iraq?

President Bush, made a mistake by being born for one thing and than becoming President for a second time thank You Ohio, and Florida.
What do you think about the results in Iraq, all you have to do is turn on our television and you will see do you see results I am not saying there aren't any but do you hear the journalist reporting on them as much as they do the negative aspects of the war.
I just want it over with so our troops can come home and that's it.

History will judge. The Americans and the Brits had the chance in the 1930's of stopping a facist state from becoming too powerful, and did nothing but appease and use diplomacy. That inaction caused the deaths of millions.
Had Winston Churchill become PM and taken Germany out then, would they have asked the same questions about him, never realize the lives that had been saved. America pilloried not only the Bush but Clinton administration because they did not act on intelligence with respect to both IRAQ and Al Queda--the twin towers resulting. Not only America, but France, Germany, Russia, England had infromation that IRAQ was arming with WMD's--whether there were or not is open to question--but all these agencys agreed with that threat. You pillory leaders for not acting and then you pillory them when they do. Gives me thought about the depth of thought a lot of Americans put into a position. Let's support a cause until it cost us votes. So did he make a mistake--no I think not--and the bulk of IRAQ braved mortar fire to vote in their first free elections 70% of the population I believe agreed with him. The only mistake being made here is the cut and run mentality being brought to bear. This is not George Bushes struggle, this is America's struggle against an enemy who's avowed mission is to kill us. Always been simple in my mind--

George Bush made the biggest mistake ever when he sent our troops to Iraq. All of this started over oil and other nonsense. Iraq had nothing to do with the twin towers bombing, it was all Afghanistan. So why did we invade Iraq? Because Saddam Picked on George Bush Sr and it pissed George Bush Jr off. Therefore it was the biggest mistake Bush ever made. I want the troops to come home. They never should have been over there to start with. we are losing too many American men and women.

My observations and opinions, dictate differing answers.
First, before the 9 / 11 disaster, I remember seeing on national t.v. news coverage, satellite taken photos, of a "nuclear materials enrichment" plant, in Iraq !!! Second. I also remember newspersons reporting of thousands of the indigonous peoples of Iraq, being killed by the military force of Saddom Huesans(sp).. Third, I remember Pres. Bush, telling the world what was going to happen, long before that action actually began. 4. ( IMPORTANT) I remember the t.v. broadcasts of satellite taken photos, showing SEVERAL convoys of military trucks, leaving Iraq, and intering SYRIA . What was in those trucks??? W.M.D.'s ???? Will these items be used against the U.S.A. in the future?? I pray not !!!! 5. (IMPORTANT) ANY military experienced person will tell you, THAT YOUR INTENTIONS ARE NEVER- NEVER TO BE REVEALED TO THE ENEMY !!! 6. This being said : A. A Presential leaders FIRST responsability is to defend his country !!! If Pres. Bush was going to attack Iraq, he should never had told them in advance !!!! B. Knowing that this action, would bring a tremindous amount of critacisem, HE and all of the Military Chief's of Staff, (and C.I.A. and other covert organizations) should have made very carefull plans to gather Saddom and all of his hinchmen together, (along with their higher supporting actors), and NUCKED THE HELL OUT OF THAT WHOLE AREA, and WHEN FINISHED, THAT AREA WOULD HAVE BEEN SECOND ONLY TO GOD'S DISTRUCTION OF SODOM and GOMORA !!!!!!
Now, for those of you who are appalled at this, THAT CRAP IN IRAQ WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETED,OVER 4 YEARS AGO.!!!
WAR IS THE GREATEST INSULTING ATROCITY IN THE HUMAN RELATIONSHIP !!!!! Yes, is my answer to your question, with reservations, reserved !

Bush made (and continues to make) two significant mistakes regarding Iraq.
First, be allowed optimism and guesswork to cause him to ignore making a detailed assessment of what it would take to accomplish what he was trying to do. Optimism is not bad, but it should never be a substitute for hard data and thorough analysis.
His second ongoing mistake was his refusal to do anything different once the circumstances changed. "Stay the course" only works if the situation on the ground remains the same. As the conditions in Iraq changed, his response and policies should have changed to match the new conditions.

No he did not. Execution was not planned very well but the premise behind the Iraq war is sound.
Darfur/Iraq the same type of situation. The same people calling for the US to enter Sudan are the same people that would apparently be more then happy to let saddam keep filling mass graves with dead Kurds and Shiites.
