It may not be dandruff but a condition called seborrheic dermatitis.
Seborrhea is not uncommon.
It is chronic but controllable in almost all cases.
Some solutions to try but not all at once.
Use for a few days to see if there is improvement.
There's nothing wrong with daily shampooing except that any shampoo tends to dry out the hair. If you see improvement, keep using the shampoo but do it only about every three days. If one of these below helps and then stops helping, switch for awhile. Be sure to read the ingredients in the shampoo to make sure there is the ingredient needed.
Try a zinc pyrithione shampoo.
Try Neutrogena T/Gel ... a coal tar shampoo.
Try Nizoral (this in over the counter shampoo but also can be a prescription if necessary.)
Don't put crushed aspirin in your hair.
That idea comes from another treatment for this condition which has a salicylic acid as an ingredient.
Other things you might try to do is limit the gels, mousses, sprays, as they are likely to make things worse.
Get some sun exposure as sebborrhea is diminished somewhat by ultraviolet sun rays.
Two other things may also help:
Manuka Honey from New Zealand, available in health food stores, rubbed into the scalp. Wait ten minutes and then shampoo out. (It is expensive so use ony a teaspoon or so.)
Tea Tree Oil from Australia. There are a few shampoos out there with this as an ingredient.
Good luck to your friend.

Almost anytime that a person uses the same shampoo and condition constantly it will cause a dandruff build up. Our body gets used to things easily and we need to change lotions, shampoos, conditioners to keep our body on track. Just try changing hair products about every month or two and maybe to a baby oil treatment once in a while. I use baby oil on freshly warm wet hair and leave it in for about 1 hour. I usually put a towel on my head so that I can still do things around the house. it usually takes about 2 washes to get all the oil out, but it works great. Hope it works

well do not use head n shoulders. do not put an asprin in your shampoo that only takes build up off the hair shaft. and your friend should not shampoo every day that is prolly drying out her scalp.she should massage her scalp ( a few minutes) when she washes her hair with her fingertips not her fingernails. and she shouldnt use conditioner everyday either.

Pl. ask her to stop using that Aussie stuff and see a good homeopath. Sending her Reiki in the meantime to help her.
