Corn starch stops bleeding a lot better than flour does. Dip the toe into a pile of corn starch and if the cat lets you, hold it there a while.

It'll stop bleeding but be sure to contain the cat in a small room like a bathroom till you know it's stopped. It'll make for an easier clean up and you can find the cat easier than having to crawl under the bed to get them for checking later.

Get to the vet. Or try taking a wet cloth or paper towel and wrap around the paw with some pressure and try keeping it there for a bit. I know your cat might squiggle. I've also heard of dipping a cat's paw in flour right away if it's bleeding. That's suppose to help stop it. Also wash with peroxide then rinse to get rid of germs. Applying vaseline often is fine; it's ok if they lick it. I've had to do that with my cats. It helps move things along in their digestive system as well!

If they are bleeding then you need to get your cat to a vet. You should never clip past the cuticle. I guess you already know that now though.

the stuff they sell at the pet stores is called "KwickStop" and works very well. Buy some and keep it on hand when trimming nails. Sometimes if you've got a wiggly cat it's hard not to cut the nail too short.

Good luck!

Use a styptic powder to stop the bleeding. If you don't have styptic powder on hand, ordinary kitchen flour will work in a pinch.

Go to the vet A.S.A.P. and get a check-up for him/her, especially if she/he is bleeding! If he/she is bleeding, take a wet cloth and apply pressure for it to stop.
