People who ignore their consciences regularly eventually become dumb (lack hearing) to it.

These things you want to do, are they illegal, immoral, or harmful to other people? That's a good test.

Sometimes peoples' consciences can go into overdrive. Bounce an idea off a friend and see if they think you're being too conscientious or careful.

I don't understand how a conscience can keep you from focusing. If you want you can e-mail me with an explanation for that one.

I'm a pro when it comes to consciences. I have wrestled with mine for most of my life. At one time, I realized that my guilt stemming from my conscience was causing depression and misery. I had to stop and re-evalutate and once again ask for help in discerning the authentic, true speakings of my conscience, and detecting what speakings were my overactive, depressed mind.

I hope this is helpful to you, sweetheart. E-mail me if you need to.

Well there is a way to get rid of it but I don't suggest killing yourself. Maybe your conscience is holding you "back" b/c it knows that w/e it is that you want to do is not really the right thing. It may very well be the best thing for you. I doubt very seriously that it's keeping you from focusing.. your conscience doesn't control that part of your body. The part you should actually be worrying about that controls that particular fuction is called the Cerebral Cortex.

Here is a list of things that the Cerebral Cortex part of your brain controls: Determines Intelligence

Determines Personality

Interpretation of Sensory Impulses

Motor Function

Planning and Organization

Touch Sensation

Which as you notice involves your conscience.

(Drum roll please...) Become a Republican!!! Just kidding. You have a conscience for a reason, and having no ethics is a very bad way to get forward. Everything you do without a conscience will land you in jail for white collar or regular crimes. Ask that Enron guy who just got sentenced to a million years.
As for business in general, there is nothing more important than your relationship with clients and business partners. If you get known as a cheating bastard, that will not help you any way and will destroy your career!!!
Get ahead in business and elsewhere by working the hardest and treating people right!!! There is no substitute!!!

Your conscience is the morals you learned as a child. They are only holding you back from participating in things that you know to be wrong. They prevent you from going to prison, hurting people emotionally or inflicting pain or suffering. They are the compass to right and wrong. Why would you want to be rid of them? It's like walking in a dark tunnel filled with dangers and throwing away your flashlight

Your conscience is the part of you that feels bad when your other parts are feeling good. There's a reason for this, and the solution is NOT to become a sociopath (a person with no conscience). Listen to your conscience, it's trying to tell you something important.

Maybe Hitler , Charles Manson, Jeffery Dommer, people like that appear to have rid them selves of a conscience, But, I would hope that you would focus on bettering your life and not destroying others. And a conscience is a guide .

Jimmy the Cricket says so!

sure...all you have to do is get a lobotomy...if you have no memory, you have no conscience...i doubt you want to turn into a vegetative state kind of person though...if what you want to do is what's bothering you, change what you want to do...you can be a much happier person doing what you know is right, rather than doing the wrong thing and always looking back to see who might be finding out about what you've done...

Where it is impossible to rid yourself of your conscience, it is possible to convince yourself that what you did, or are going to do is justified. Example... Stealing that apple is justified, because the owner of the apple is very wealthy and won't miss the profit off of one lousy apple. You however, can't afford even one apple, so it's justified that you take the apple. So long as you believe that you are justified in stealing the apple, you won't be bothered by that meddlesome conscience.
