It's sad that politics and emotions have replaced scientific method in the classrooms.

Yeah you make a great point, I myself am in college right now working on an education degree. And when I do get out there and teach I will do the same as you and tell everybody just how screwed up the liberals are with this whole global warming thing. If nothing else I hope they will look at the whole picture and not just what people such as Al Gore tells them. The more information people have the better judgments they can make :).............

The amount of misinformation is what disturbs me, and that global warming is not being treated as the theory it is and is instead being drilled into schoolchildren as cold hard facts. It's sickening that kids are being made to watch that idiotic Al Gore "documentary" like it's a factual scientific film. He exaggerates many facts, never acknowledges that global warming is a very new theory that still needs some research and he doesn't even mention that farm animals are the number one cause of pollution (guess he likes his cheeseburgers a bit too much...how "convenient") The amount of hypocrisy really bothers me as well. Live Earth was a prime example...look at all the travelling, all the trash, and there were only a handful of artists there who even care about the environment.
@ enragedparrot: Oh really now? I'm glad to know that I have no clue what a scientific theory is...considering most of my sociology classes at Berkeley begin with defining hypothesis, theory and law. A theory is not a fact; a fact is something that can be observed or measured. Theories require a great deal of research before we can generally accept them as true - research which is being discouraged by a lot of environmentalists who are dead certain they are right and everyone else is wrong. I think it is you who could use some education, as I am receiving a top notch education at one of our country's finest universities, thank you very much.

Global warming is not a liberal issue. It is a scientific one. Were you not so blinded by partisan rage you could easily see this.
I suppose you think evolutionary theory is all just a big scam too?
And = ^_^ =, I tell you what's =really= disturbing: the number of people out there just like yourself who, despite the ease by which they could educate themselves, remain blissfully ignorant of what exactly a scientific theory is.
Edit Numero dos: Yes, despite your undoubtedly stellar training at the University if California, you're still either ignorant of what a scientific theory is or directly lying about it to other people.
You're absolutely right that a theory is not factual. You're absolutely wrong when you say "global warming is not being treated as the theory it is". Global warming is, in fact, being treated as =exactly= the theory it is.
Theories are built on facts. They are models that attempt to explain part of the world. Some theories are better than others. Scientists employ the scientific method to discover =which= ones are better. At present, while there's no way to know that GW theory is 100% accurate, we can be absolutely certain that it's the =best explanation for the observed phenomena we currently have=. And that is exactly how it is being treated in our (admittedly poor. But that's beside the point) education system.
I doubt you'll see this. But if you do I ask that you email your response to me, since I'm highly unlikely to remember to check this thread again.

Very true. The earth warms and cools naturally. To be scared the earth is warming (after the WWII era cold spell) is like being surprised the earth is brightening every morning after it has been dark. True science cannot be ignored. Max Mayfield, the dierector of the National Hurricane Center at NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) debunked global warming myths and explained the phenomenon of natural climate cycles. Instead of logically approaching Mr Mayfield's statements, the liberals and greens called for his resignation! Or why doesn't anybody listen to the true experts like Kerry Emanuel of MIT who stated that it would be "absurd to blame Hurricane Katrina on global warming." It's ridiculous!

I don't think its a bad concept, kids should be aware of what's going on around them, what grown ups are doing. The money spent by Gore and company could pay to clean up beaches around the world and build recycling centers. These are actions that everybody can participate in. Global warming will happen whether we like it or not.

Thank you Bob for those punctuated and concise statements. To the questioner, please consider not dragging those who believe that global warming into mire of "who's on what side". Consider that you and I breath the same air and that we drink the same water. Consider that I might be protecting our future generations from needless disease, hurt, and stunted creativity. In fact we typically grow as a species when faced with an obstacle. In this case global warming is by unbiased accounts happening and is a limiting factor. why wait ? Why wait to find safer alternatives to carbon producing energies. Why wait to find out who we are. I am sure that the Hollywood celebs that your talking about use clean energy. Furthermore, because Al Gore and his constituents have a larger than average carbon footprint does not mean that they do not do more than average to offset that footprint.

When global warming deniers bring up Al Gore, they are simply admitting they have no scientific arguments worth considering.
This is not the politics forum. But if politics is important to you, you might want to listen to Newt:
"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"
You might try learning some science yourself. The current change is not a natural cycle. Proof here, from the Source below.

Your kids will be paying a stiff price for your ignorance. You could fix that here:

You've been brainwashed by the conservative propaganda who serve the big oil companies, car makers, lumber mills, and other big businesses. These evil companies dont care about the environment, they only care about their bottom line. If polluting saves money, they will do it. And they find it cheaper to buy these politicians then to change their ways. There is a general concensus by most scientists in the world that global warming does exist and it is fueled to a certain extent by human action. Wouldn't you want to err on the side of safety than to find out you were wrong and have destroyed the planet beyond saving? Conserve, and change your purchasing habits...always keeping the planet in mind. Do it for your kids and your grandkids!

Yes, but we get to as MANY kids as we can. We have COMMUNITY cookouts with huge bon fires, lots of paper cups and plates, lots of plastic ware and plenty of grain feed meat. The kids don't care and by the time we finish with them they would throw rocks at gore if he came near here with his bull s--t , Keep up the good work, we cant get them all, but we can get most.

It disturbs me when individuals who have clearly never studied global warming or climate change brainwash their own kids because they think they know better than the combined intelligence of just about every scientist on the planet.
I guess if your kids are poorly you treat them yourself. No point consulting a doctor, they're only experts, what do they know?
