There is a patch on my cat's back where the hair is kinda standing up and hard. It's also a bit bald. It's been there for a few months now and not going away. At first I thought it was something messed on her, but obviously it is something else. She doesn't like you touching it.
What could it be?

You should get it checked out by a vet. Could there be some sort of knot in there? It might even be an internal parasite. Some kind of skin lesion maybe.

Maybe the vet can give you some cream or meds for it. In the meantime, if it's rough like you say, put some vaseline on it. It won't matter if your cat cleans it off; not harmful to them. It will help them with hairballs too :) I've used vaseline on a sore for a nursing mama before. She couldn't have antibiotics because of the kittens so I kept using Vaseline. It helped.

I don't think it would be mange, the fur just falls out for this usually. Dermatitis is a possibility, or a hot spot. Your vet would need to look a the skin and hair to be sure what it is. If it's obviously hurting your cat to touch it then it's time to make an appointment and have it checked out. Especially as it hasn't gone away after at least 2 months.

Why have you waited so long? If she doesn't like you touching it, it's obviously causing her pain! Get her to the vet! It may be getting bald from her licking it too much. Cats do that to wounds. Or it may be mange, dermatitis, an infection, an allergy to flea meds, or who knows what! The vet can tell you what's causing it, and prescribe the proper medication for it. If you don't know what it is, you can't self-medicate. Take her to your vet or a reputable animal clinic first thing tomorrow. Don't put it off any longer!
