This may sound weird and I'm not sure if this is ok for your plants but put sheets of foil in it all around. Cats don't like stepping on foil. Call your vet or local pet store to ask them about products for that as well. Cats don't like citrus smells so putting orange scented air fresheners nearby might help.

Some people stick pencils into the dirt, but me I think putting a layer of pine cones, the big spiky kind, around the plant will work better. They want to use the dirt for a bathroom, but they won't use it if they have to walk across round spiky rolling things.

You can help your cat enjoy his 'dirt' box by getting a small bag of potting soil and sprinkling it over the litter. We took in an outdoor cat who preferred dirt and this worked for him.

Sorry to hear about your problem. It's been my experience that cats and plants just don't mix well together. If they aren't using the plant to pee in, their chewing on them. After much frustration, I decided I loved the cats more than the plants and it was the plants that got a new home.

Put a mothball or two on top of the soil in the pot.

(I get them at the dollar store.)

Be careful using them around small children.
